My Vintage Writng Box / Slope

I had been looking all over for one, but the authentic vintages were $800.00+

Then I found a new model on Etsy for $15.00. It's ok, but not nearly as good looking.

Old-style writing slopes and writing-cases can be extremely expensive or extremely hard to find in a usable condition. Trust me, until I found one, I was after one for years and they were always just out of reach.

Beak has made a fine purchase. Although I reckon it's lacking a few things. Namely, ridges or ledges to rest pens and/or paper.

Fyi there's a very similar styled one by the Bombay Company in cherry on EBay right now: item #260863993479

I have hopes of picking up a travel box similar to Moagy's box at a live auction this weekend.

It was a gift for some one finishing his apprenticeship in 1895; there is a small brass plate. Walnut burl vernier and brass straps.

I really hope for cheap...

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

For me, the value of this one is that it's not tailored in any way - no internal fittings to lock me into any particular way to use it. Attractive as all those little compartments are, I never seem to have the right size things to put in them. All personal, of course, but I do like the freedom of the big open spaces inside this box.

Well, you have time to find out what gizmo's went in the various compartments and buy some, as the time goes on.

If I get mine, I will need a stagecoach proof traveling inkwell. Fancy extending dip pen (pen holder) or such, by and by.

If it helps at all, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! ...And even as I typed that, I realised the absurdity of such a thought and action in so many ways, but you know what I mean!

Thank you, absurdity is a fine spice in life. Spice not main course. :vbg:

Mudville.

The other bidder hit € 180 and looked determined...and I'd passed my 'border' of 120, 140 and :bonk: 160 made me think....some other day.

Two breaths from 0 to 180. :(

So I drowned my sorrows by buying Pelikan Jade and De Atramentis Sahara gray (a green) and Cement Gray.

More a Wet cement color.

Ach - bad luck. Next time, next time...

Or there's always the 'bay, that's where I got mine, there's loads in the UK and the postage shouldn't be prohibitive for you, I would have thought.

Beak,

Spectacular...and thank you for posting all the dimensions too!

I agree that the lack of compartments is an added advantage as you are not pidgeonholed into any particular size for anything

....

..and anything small and delicate can have it's own little box, which can then be shoved anywhere.

I had thought to keep everything I needed in this box, and that I would refrain from getting anything that didn't fit inside it (a tidiness attempt) but that lasted about one day; there is never enough space for any of my interests! Perhaps when the first careless raptire with the FP settles down, I may be able to do that, but it's not looking likely in the near future!

Sincerely, beak.
