The Rare Ones

I have an unused Mont Blanc Collodi Writer's Series match set, all pens are matched somewhere in the 60s (I believe it's 67 but as they're currently in storage I'd have to double check). My point is that MB screwed up production on those series and had to actually hand match only 100 sets versus their normal 4,000 matched sets in all other series both before and after the Collodi Series. I figured I had something special immediately even though the stores had not even been notified; after my purchase and subsequent queries from the MB store to Corporate it became obvious they were being given the run around with Corporate trying to cover their butts. Nothing but excuses and BS came out of MB at the time and the store could not get a straight answer. After awhile of this and the following series going back to the same 4,000 sets we knew anyone holding a matched set (1 through 100 only) would have something of great value in their inventory once collectors understood what had actually taken place.

So I'm simply checking in to see if anyone has any current or more info on the value of these 100 sets?

Thanks for any feedback,

Marc

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Hello everyone, what would you think of this one, recent but extremely rare (only 5 units produced and sold in a single boutique)?

Is that the Colette - Montblanc "The Away Project" in Paris?

I tried to get it in 2011 but it was sold out :-(

I would expect more than 5 were sold...

Yes, Sunnerd, it is. It has been a great occasion to be able to get it in Paris, as no MB boutique was allowed to sell it...

I recently acquired this pen, it's a Montblanc 121 from the sixties, it's a good writer I'm not sure whether this pen can be considered as 'rare', but I haven't seen one before!

Christof ... YES !!!!!!!! :notworthy1: :notworthy1: :notworthy1:

That's another RARE pen!! Wow!!

One question concerning my 135:

Is there anybody else here, that has one or has more information to share???

I would be highly interested !

(when I told people about the pen, so far I always heard something like... 'yes I know that the 135 exists but ... havn't seen one')

Best regards

Michael

I thought there isn't a brown striated pattern, just green and grey?

I've read it somewhere that green and grey striated all discolour into brown-striated patterns...

Brown striated pattern only in the Spanish Montblancs produced by Wiese, like this 220. I have this in brown and grey striated:

Time to pin this topic again for a while, I think.

Anyone acquire any rare Montblancs recently?

Anyone wanting to see some very rare MBs should visit Gary Lehrer's site. You will find the cavalier di Rose, (MB124E), a red molted Baby with box and a solid gold Sarastro .....

Hemingway are nice and expensive, but not rare; these pens were produced in 1992 and "limited" to a run of 30,000 ballpoints and 25,000 fountain pens. You have a lot of information in the Montblanc forum.

This is a Sefty # 1 in gold with a non MB star and a date at the Cap's head = 24/5/1939, I would not call it "rare" but let's say uncommon...
