Diamine Majestic Blue - Dries Up?

Hi All,

I have a bottle of Diamine's Majestic Blue. I do really like the color and have it in my pen rotation. Currently It is in an Esterbrook Dollar pen. I have used a 9556 nib, then switched to a 9668 nib. I have also tried this ink in my Sheaffer Sentinel. The problem I have is that in any pen/nib i use, it is hard to start. I usually have to shake it hard or tap it fairly hard to get it to start. I will write with it for a while and then a few minutes later when I go to use it again, I have to do the same thing again to start it. I have washed of the nib and even tried different nibs, but get the same result. This is the only ink that does this for me, I also have a Diamine Woodland Green, which works great.

Anyone else had this experience?

Sean

Yes, I do have the same problems.

I use it either dilluted with some water or mixed with Diamine Prussian Blue. Mixed it is well behaved and I can get rid of the boring PB. The dilluted MB is filled into a Pelikan M250 with a wet M nib This seems to be a good combination and it works flawlessly.

I think it is a 'thick' ink which might explain why it takes ages to dry and smears for ever. The dilution seems to be the answer = water to keep its colour or other inks to use it/them up.

Thanks for the advise! I may add some water to it to dilute it a little bit. I now have seen the pinned topic on that. Funny I used that ink in a different pen with the same 9668 nib and it worked just fine.

Thanks

Very slight hesitancy on the first letter only with a Waterman F nib. Lovely ink.

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but does anyone know if the stuff in the cartridges is different from the bottled stuff?

i bought a 30ml bottle of "Majestic Blue" based on a sample cartridge I had been sent by Diamine, and it definitely looks different! The pen I used was a well-flushed Parker 45 (I used a Platignum No5 Studio and a Jinhao X750 with the cartridge).

The cartridge was a brilliant dark blue; the bottle has a greenish look to it, almost like Teal.

I have had this problem in Pelikan M800 and Waterman edson, both with medium nibs. I have stopped using this ink, although the colour is very nice. It is the only ink that gives me this kind of trouble, other Diamine are fine, including Registrar's.

I usually have a Safari F loaded with it, I have not noticed any clogging problems with it. It does flow well and seems to output a lot of ink. It does remind me a lot of the way Private Reserve Sherwood Green behaves - a bit slow drying, and smears a bit even after dry. If I handle the paper a lot, the ink tends to come off onto my hands.

I have used it in a Pelikan M215 F, which had more flow than I wanted. I think it does better in a pen that is a little dry rather than wet.

I had the same problem with my Pelikan m800 F pen. It is a shame that such a beautiful colour has this problem.

Does Diamine Midnight Blue have the same problem? They are very similar colours.

Pleased I spotted this thread! My fine nibbed Lamy 2000, which has worked perfectly with my other Diamine inks, has dried up a bit and become a bit scratchy when using this ink. First time I've had any issues with this ink and pleased I can "fix" my Lamy 2000 with a flush and change of ink.

Just for what it's worth.

:headsmack: I was convinced that every Diamine inks would be flowing equally well.

Well. The color is really nice. Perhaps it's worth the trouble.

When diluted to 20%ink/80% water it is a light blue-turquoise. It flows much better but it also feathers much more on cheaper paper.

I have some experience with this ink in a CS beliver with F nib.

The ink is gorgeous in colour , but pen started writing dry after half converter empty.

By pushing a bit more pressure on the tines , it suddenly became more of a wet writer.

Is this ink more prone to drying in , while letting the pen uncapped , which I do quite often in business circumstances.

NO such issues with other inks at all

I've found it to be a cloggy ink..very pretty...very sheeny.. but it has given me grief in every pen. It performed better after I added a flow enhancer (I've heard good things about PhotoFlo).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I've been using it in my Pilot Prera M nib.

If the pen is left uncapped for a while, yes, it skips slightly before starting to write again.

No issues if I cap the pen when I stop writing.

Or, you can just add water. Enough (10, 15, 20%) to make it behave better without changing the colour.

I only use broad or stub nibs and haven't had any problems with Majestic Blue, and I've been using various bottles of this ink since about 2011.

Doesn't that change the sheen?
