Breaking News: New Parker Model To Be Launched

It looks like a technical pen with a metal hood...I think this is why people view fountain pen users as being pretentious. The reason why we use fountain pens is not because we want to be seen with them, but because we ENJOY using them.

I'm curious as to what about this experience makes it different from a felt tip or technical pen. Or does it just end up being a much more expensive and interesting looking felt tip?

Edit: okay here's the translation from a German site. sounds like a solution looking for a problem, to me.

You can probably pop the back cap off of the refill and get the fiber refill core out and wash it in the sink...and refill with with an eyedropper and some REAL FP ink.

Wow, I want to pay $8 for a Flair fiber tip! GOOD THINKING. This will certainly cost Parker a lot of money...

Oh yea, I've been looking all my life for a spring loaded felt tip pen, that looks like a fountain pen, at a higher price..$180

NOT :gaah:

:yikes: I could have bought TWO more FPN Pasportos for that!

Since this is launched as a new writing mode, instead of establishing a new model, shouldn't all current Parker models come with this 5th mode pens from Duofold down to Jotter?

As far as I can tell, the target market for this product is anyone who has an irrational fear of fountain pens, yet wants to be seen writing with something that looks like a fountain pen.

Good luck with that.

It really is ridiculously priced. $180-190, depending on the vendor, is outrageous for a porous point...Parker or otherwise.

damn, that's really fake.

for that price you can get a very nice 'real' fountainpen.

i wonder how a duofold looks like with this new 5th element refill hahaha

this is a -1 for parker.

another reason why I will never ever purchase a modern parker. I would rather buy a vac or a chased hard rubber senior sized duofold than this (bleep)

A refill that goes into a pen that looks like a fountain pen, but isn't really a fountain pen...

As others have said, why not just get a fountain pen? Or a rollerball? Why not just treat the refill like you would a ballpoint or rollerball, since the usage will be the same.

I can't see why Parker are releasing a pen that masquerades as something it's not. It's bit silly to have a 'nib' that is only there for decoration.

The only Parker I've got is a Frontier. It cost £10 and writes superbly - I can't complain. However, looking at some of the feedback, I'm reluctant to try any of their more expensive pens from the current lineup.

The ones that I want (a 45, 51 and 95) are no longer being made. It's such a shame. What on Earth happened to this company?

It seems like Parker believes that a spring-loaded fiber tip pen will write like a fountain pen. If it becomes popular (seems doubtful), then Parker should make inexpensive bodies for that refill, since the money is in selling $8 refills. I would be interested to try it, but it sounds gimmicky. Parker must think it could become successful, so maybe it's better than it sounds. Time will tell.

I don't think that Parker has changed dramatically from it's founding. The pens that Parker makes today are great pens. You should not be reluctant to try a Sonnet or modern Duofold both are excellent pens, well-designed and well-made pens.

I'm not sure who this pen will appeal to and as other have said the premise seems silly but I think it is as equally as silly for people to use an example of a pen like this to declare that they will NEVER buy modern pens or that older pens are better made than modern pens (both of which are silly).

I didn't mean this as a critique on your post just more of a general critique on peoples attitudes about new pens.

I'm wondering if the tip retracts back to the nib allowing the nib to help spread the ink, acting like a form of feed. Probably not. But that would be kind of interesting.

Oh, just like the Pentel Italic Fountain! It works like a felt tipped calligraphy pen (seen better on the Italic), but the tip looks like resin, flexible resin that won't lose it's shape that easily. Sounds interesting, but it isn't new or revolutionary .. the only difference is that this new pen looks somewhat like a fountain pen.
