Need Help Identifying This Art Deco Mechanical Pencil

Recommended Posts

I have an awesome little fat mechanical pencil and I cannot figure out who made it.

It has an art deco styling, a black & pearl marble design and a fantastic looking cap. It measures 4 1/4 inches in length and uses 1.18mm lead.

Elements in the pen bring Jif, Wyvern and Wende brands to mind.In any event, I think it is a European brand.post-63951-0-42710200-1315761998.jpg

As I said it is a fat little thing, with a diameter of 11.62mm.

Any help in identifying it would be appreciated.

Thanks,

What a beautiful pencil! The clip is very distinctive. I think I have seen the same design clip on a Czech pen , maybe a Smaragd or a Barclay. Maybe some other Czech pre-WW2 pen maker. Hope this is helpful.

I don't know what it is but the clip does not seem to go with the pen either in style or color. It might be a replacement. The pencil may be from the 20's, the clip looks to me to be at least 10 years younger.

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time. TS Eliot

Hi,

It looks very similar to a Pen made by Fisher Space. They call it the .338 Bullet Space Pen. Maybe, they have made this mechanical pencil.

I have attached a picture for your reference.

You will have to walk me through this comparison Saketb...I don't see any similarity to this cartridge casing Fisher pen.

Thanks

I was thinking the same thing. But if you really look at it the pencil kinda does a a bullet shape to it.

The body or the barrel of the pen/pencil looks very similar (like a bullet, even mentioned by KKieffer), and that is the reason I happened to post here as a similarity between them.

Well, it is not necessary that Fisher, would have made it but the looks are same to me.

Would have been a little tough for Fisher to have made that pencil as Paul Fisher did not start making his ink refills until 1953 and did not patent his AG7 Anti-Gravity Pen until 1965...both long after this pencil was manufactured.

Well, I have just found a pencil just like this on the French eBay. It is auction number 400233822952 if you want to view it. You do not have to go to the French version of eBay if you have the auction number. Just put 400233822952 in the search window and it will take you to it.

All it says is 1930 Art Deco. I sent a message to the seller asking him if he knew any more about it.

Nice pencil. But I agree the clip does not belong to the end button, totally different style and color. Clip might be steel while the turning knob looks silver.

Actually, the colors of the chrome do match...exactly...it is my poor knowledge of photography that makes them look like they are not the same color. They are.

I also think that the clip does match the pencil. I have had this pencil a number of years and to go up onto the French eBay site last night and find another pencil EXACTLY like it,same clip, etc. tends to make me believe that the clip and pencil are a match and were manufactured this way.

Okay, anyhow, I DO like the pencil, but could not tell you more.
