New Diamine Inks

I'm on the cusp of ordering some Eclipse now... but really, do I need another black? (even if it's 'complex' black?)

I noticed in the stock Diamine scan that the ink appears to exhibit some major 'sheening'. Well, I suppose that makes it kinda interesting.

Did you notice any shading in Eclipse, fuchsiaprincess?

Because a darkblue/purple with a black shading would be very nice indeed!

Yes, inquiring (sheen-obsessed) minds want to know! :bunny01:

I didn't notice any shading, but I love my nibs thick and wet. I daresay if you prefer finer, drier nibs, that there could be some shading

I like the look of Diamine Damson scans I've seen, but the reviews I've found around the Web are less than complimentary about its performance. Please, are any of the Bilberry, Denim, Eclipse, Grape, Macassar and Merlot group anything like a better-behaved replacement?

The scans here don't look anything like Damson. Probably the closest you can get to the colour of Damson is J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune. However, the reviews of Damson that I recall were complimentary of it's performance so I see no reason to avoid Damson if you like the colour.

fuchsiaqueen, (or how about fuchsia empress?) if you're still taking requests ;) it would be really awesome to see Meadow & Apple Glory writing samples with a less-broad nib... Thanks so much for everything you've posted! :notworthy1:

Hi Indie,

Unfortunately, my nibs are all B and broader  I will attempt to write with Meadow and Apple Glory with my flexy fines over the weekend.

Take care!

Thank you! :happyberet:

Here you go - hope it helps!

I've not been aware of less than complimentary reviews (although I'm quite prpepared to admit that I might not have been paying attention!!). I've used Damson a lot in a medium nib P51 annd a medium Lamy Safari (which to me writes more like a fine) and I haven't had any problems with it. It is perhaps a tad on the dry side compared to say Diamine Twilight, but in truth I only notice this if I've switched from one to the other within a day or so. No noticeable feathering on Oxford spiral bound A4's, average drying time - and it is a lovely colour, nice and dark.

Give it a go, I think you'll like it.

I must get my hands on the Aqua Lagoon and meadow!! :puddle:

I don't know if I can wait until June 2012 for all the colors to be released.

And thank you for your thorough reviews and sample scans!

Thank you! You rock so hard! :bunny01:

The pen makes quite a difference with these colors... I really loved the brightness of Meadow in a broad nib but wouldn't have given it another thought if I'd seen it like this first. :hmm1:

Rachel,

Thanks for posting, I just got the newsletter as well! The swabs look great!

I am a bit more interested in Meadow and Maccassar for some reason after seeing these swabs. :hmm1:

The Sargasso Sea looks great!

I already have the Imperial Blue and the Royal Blue.

I fill my pens only with Diamine Ink.

I like the saturation of the blue tones.

I think Eclipse and Maccasar are worth adding to my next batch of samples. I wonder if Eclipse might be the same ink as Akkerman's Voorhout Violet? And Wild Strawberry might be the same as China Town Red.

Today I see more difference in the colours in the OP; probably had the angle of the laptop screen wrong. [Edit: humph, now I'm lookin in daylight, not artificial light]. However, I was interested in very dark inks, almost black but with colour undertone, and willing to consider options other than purple.

I took another look at some of the non-FPN reviews I'd read:

Diamine Damson Disappoints - http://inkophile.wordpress.com/2008/10/05/diamine-damson-disappoints/

Diamine Amazing Amethyst - http://dizzypen.livejournal.com/7703.html (

Review: Diamine Damson Fountain Pen Ink - http://www.biffybeans.com/2009/06/review-diamine-damson-fountain-pen-ink.html

The authors aren't as disappointed as I remembered them being, but there are comments about flow and lubrication.

I checked - they weren't as bad as I thought, but there were comments about flow and lubrication.

The "dry" comment is not what I'd want to hear... I tried Twilight recently in a Lamy Nexx with 1.1i nib and thought Twilight dry, but I may not have had enough ink in the pen, or not been pressing hard enough. The paper in the Paperchase 'Noto' = rebranded CIAK notebook I'm currently using seems questionable, with some pages taking ink much better than others.

No noticeable feathering on Oxford spiral bound A4's, average drying time - and it is a lovely colour, nice and dark.

Given the vagaries of ink, pen, paper and personal preference... that's the only way to be sure B) But I could bankrupt myself buying all the Diamine (let alone other) inks I'd like to try :bawl: Some interesting colours in the latest batch.

Received the five new inks yesterday. The looked much better than i thought. The real suprise is Wild Strawberry. I love this one. Really nice for marking and reviewing documents. I filled my highlighter Pelikan M205 with BB nib with it.
