For me it's a PFM I in Medium, just got it last week. I'm used to much finer nibs and I like a bit more feedback so I may put Diamine Registrar's Blue Black to dry it out a little... It has Namiki Blue in it now.

Inked: Aurora Optima EF (Pelikan Tanzanite); Franklin Christoph Pocket 20 Needlepoint (Sailor Kiwa Guro); Sheaffers PFM I Reporter/Fine (Diamine Oxblood); Franklin Christoph 02 Medium Stub (Aurora Black); Platinum Plaisir Gunmetal EF (Platinum Brown); Platinum Preppy M (Platinum Blue-Black). Leaded: Palomino Blackwing 602; Lamy Scribble 0.7 (Pentel Ain Stein 2B); Uni Kuru Toga Roulette 0.5 (Uni Kuru Toga HB); Parker 51 Plum 0.9 (Pilot Neox HB)

Cross Solo F

I second that. Where F nib's are concerned the Cross Solo's are my smoothest. Not surprising as they were/are made by Namiki.

My smoothest M nib would be a Parker 61, and my overall smoothest is perhaps my Parker 51 aero-metric probably because it is my broadest nib.

The finer the nib the less smooth it feels.

I have several different answers for this one, modern and vintage.

My modern answer is painful for me. It was the Bock nib on a Karas Kustoms Ink pen. The nib was the smoothest and most wonderful experience I'd ever had. It is the only new pen I'd ever had that felt like the nib was designed perfectly for how I wrote. What makes it so painful is I had to return the pen. I loved that darn nib, but I could not love the pen. I live in hope that when I get another new pen with a Bock nib, I will have the same writing experience. I just placed an order for a custom made pen and specifically asked if he could add a Bock #6 nib to it. My daily work pen is a Vanishing Point, which is a great pen for what I need, but the nib is nowhere near as nice as that Karas Kustoms.

As far as vintage, I've still not tried a Sheaffer, so it is still a WIP. Funny, every Sheaffer I'd ever bought was broken and now getting restored. However, Waterman is the clear winner. My 100 Year Pen is the smoothest glider I've got. And that is followed very, very closely by my first Everysharp -- a basic Skyline which was the second pen I ever resacced (and learned about breather tubes). I did NOT expect to like that pen as much as I do. And that is followed closely by a Waterman Taperite. After that, the smoothness is affected by the ink in the pen, so I'm learning to mix and match where appropriate. Vintage pens are still something I'm learning. For example, I've learned Parkers are not to my tastes.
