Hello,

next week I'll stay two days in Paris.

Do you know a good shop for paper and fountain pens?

Thanks.

Tom

Well, you could also pop by BHV, a big department store with a whole floor (almost) with stationary and pens and art supplies. Nice place to browse....

Mora and Styl'Honoré are the experts indeed.

Point Plume for the way out of range pens. Consider it more like a museum where you can get Edsons or M1000 as souvenirs.

Gibert Joseph Papeterie on the Boulevard Saint Michel is worth a visit too, and it's like 5 mins on foot from Mora Stylos.

BHV yes, but then, the one near Hotel de Ville.

There is a member here (Georges Zavlaski) that lives very near Paris and always recommends Stylos Mora. I doubt in two days you will cover all stores.

Considering that BHV means "Bazar de Hotel de Ville", that is kind of a given ;)

I live near Paris (used to live in Paris) and in my experience, when a Parisian says "BHV", he means _the_ BHV ... ;)

The other BHV branches are uninteresting in comparison. Check out also the basement, for a power-tools / odd-jobs overdose ;)

I´m afraid I don't agree with you about Mora Stylos. My experience with them has been very negative. A year ago, I left my PFM there because it wasn't filling properly. They charged me US$70 for the service, and it still didn't fill. I sent the pen back to Paris through a friend who was going there to visit. She left it at the shop, and then picked it up when they claimed it was fixed. She brought it back here to me, and it STILL doesn´t fill more than a few drops. The owner, Mr. Mora, is not friendly. I have never seen him smile. He insists that the pen has been fixed, and says that the PFM has a very small capacity. He refused to do any more work on it. BEWARE of this shop.

Nudder recommendation to stop by Mora Stylos. Great gentleman.

I second that

This is a great list, I've bought from most of these shops. Consider also, Opera Stylos, in the 9eme Arrondissement.

Arranging a bit geographically, these store form nice clusters, so you can visit quite a few of them if you don't have time to go to all:

Cluster 1 (near the Opera):

Bille et Plume, Palais du Stylo, Opera Stylos. Also consider stopping by Galeries Lafeyette, which has a display. Printemps may also have a display, I don't remember.

Cluster 2 (south bank):

Mora Stylos, Gibert. Also consider Bon Marche, which has a *very* nice display on the top floor.

Cluster 3 (line 1 metro):

BHV, Styl'Honore, Stylo Wagram.

Not familiar with Skripta or Point Plume.

You are the only one so far who have had problems with him. Where did you originally buy your pfm? I have bought 3 PFMs at his shop and all working well. Yes he is correct about the PFM having a small ink capacity. The guy is a proven vintage pen repair specialist since 30 years if not more, his penshop is the oldest and most reknown penshop in France and has a very good customer satisfaction rate and worldwide reputation as well. Several fpners thanked me to have recommended them the Mora Penshop. Christine, his assistant, is one very professionnal and dedicated saleswoman who will always do her best to help you out.

Will be in Paris for my first time next week (10th wedding anniversary). A bit embarrassed to ask, will i be able to manage in English at Mora's?

The Mora penshop speaks English fluently.

And what are your recomendations for the inks? Most of that shops are specialized in FP, but they don't carry ink apart from waterman/pelikan.

Many stores do carry Iroshizuku, J Herbin and Edelstein inks. Palais du Stylos can get you inks from European brands. ISTR Opera Stylos also has a good collection of inks.

The best shop is definetely André Mora, because they have both modern and vintage pens. Personally I don't like Stylo Wagram.

Any good flea markets or anything like that for people who enjoy hunting for good surprise finds?
