I was inspired by all of the great work on this thread and thought I'd give it a whirl. Four drafts later, here's what I have. Everything is hand-drawn (I learned to love the lilies by the third draft) or hand-lettered. I hope everyone enjoys. I watch this thread during lunch everyday for a bit of a midday pick-me-up. Thanks all for your outstanding works!

Sidenote: if anyone has any tips for spacing German-style letters, I'd really appreciate it. I found the style in the back of the Universal Penman and thought they looked like they were made by a rather "musical" nib. Never tried them before, but I might be interested in pursuing them more in the future now that I've started.

Really nice work Andy - I really like the circular arrangement. Your hand is always a joy to see.

@ the flexistentialist - thats a really well done piece. I really like that the 'nice' words are made prominent - I'm doing the same thing in my arrangement which uses German and Uncial styles. I really like the lilies. Very nice - thanks for sharing.

Yikes & Yowsa! ... We like totally have "suitable for framing " stuff going on here.

I encourage anyone to please enter any offerings from the heart of your pen, be they ever-so- humble or otherwise.

Share your joy of spreading ink . Inscribe something lovely. Kind of a prize in itself ... to yourself as well as to we who watch. ph34r.gif

Keep up the wonderful work thumbup.gif ~

Thanks for the competitions, pb2. I'd love an opportunity to use a music nib ... and I'd actually put it to use for music.

Beautiful submissions.

Here's mine. (I apologize that, no matter what I try, I can't get the image to appear with the correct vertical orientation.)

It was done with two Lamy Safaris:

--1.1 italic nib with Noodler's Lexington Gray

--XF nib with Pilot Iroshizuku Yama Budo

Paper=manufacturer unknown; plain white copy paper.

Good afternoon,

Wow, there are some great pieces in here!

After reading PB2's post on ink flowing from the heart of the pen, I felt the need to do something more … organic.

The below piece is made from exactly one long long line.

It starts in the circle just below "Lord" and flows over and around and goes through all the text (and a bird in a nest) and comes out at the circle to the right of "Lord." The line doesn't overlap itself, so the text is rather… unusual/stylized… but it's there if you look for it. This was just something I thought this group might enjoy. (Anyone that follows the line from start to finish deserves a dancing bunny.)

I'll probably post something a bit more classical next week to make up for this week's whimsy — thanks all again for doing such great work.

PB2: this contest is wonderful!

Salman: I can't wait to see your arrangement.

Andybiotic: That circle is a true inspiration.

Thanks,

the Flexistentialist

This is beyond superb Flexistentialist. It is so creative and your rendering is beautiful. This is a piece that just makes me smile and makes me happy that such creativity exists and I am lucky to be viewing it.

Thank you for sharing this. I will continue to admire this piece for some time.

Flexistentialist, I printed this and am trying to get my mind around your work; trying to follow the line and imagine how you accomplished such a marvelous piece, looking at the details of leaves, branches, trunk, lettering, bird nest - it all is just ... [your drawing is worth many thousands of words, so I won't slight it by inserting a few].

Thank you for blessing us with your creativity!

I think we have a winner already, just sayin'. :)

Just one? I am totally impressed with all of the talent and creativity being displayed in this thread. On any good day I just hope my letters are legible! I'll be watching this one all the way until the end - sadly I would never be able to pick between all of the fantastic pieces you guys/gals have rendered.

Keep up the wonderful work!

Linda

Wow - this is great news Pendleton.

Looking forward to a great many new entries now. I haven't had the time to put my plan into action but am enjoying what other people are contributing.
