Here is my amazingly bad first draft - in case you wonder, it is supposed to resemble a mandolin!

Continue with the calligram theme, this is just a draft but I had a lot of fun! I am going to re-do this to make it better and then re-enter (especially finding a crisper italic...). Waterman 052 1/2V and Sheaffer no nonsense, Waterman Fluorida blue or Mont Blanc Black, Clairefontaine paper.

Hope that kind of look like Saint Francis  :

Well, that nib is worth a shot.

Although I have to say that I do not think that my attempt is up to the level of the first competitors - so here goes: Nakaya Piccolo BB Stub, Private Reserve Arabian Rose, Strathmore Parchment

Wow - this one is off with a bang. Thanks PB2 for arranging another lovely contest and offering a very special prize.

Salman

Yes Salman ~ We are already looking quite good and creative. I look forward to your entries Salman; you set a high standard in the last contest.

This contest came as a surprise to me. A special donor was kindly persistent and I caved easily thinking the pen was too nice not to share.

Enjoy the fun... everyone!

The nib is awsome, although I doubt my attempt is near good enough to win. Well, here goes.

Pen: Pilot 78G, Broad stub nib.

Ink: Iroshizuku, Yama-Budo (Product of Pilot)

Paper: Morning Glory D.I.Y Notebook paper. (Not exactly sure if it was just the cover that was D.I.Y, might just be notebook paper)

I'm surprised to read that this is your draft, Andy. I don't think you can improve on it

..................

I greatly admire your hand; this is what my writing would be like if I had the consistency and legibility that I lack.

So often I find scripts with a large difference between the thick and thin strokes to be irritating to read; too contrasty and spiky looking, but this is very well handled, and not too mechanical in appearance.

Good work.

Sincerely, beak.

I can't decide which one I like better. These are amazingly good, Andy. I love the faces because they're so creative and well-done, but the circle is pretty and calming and perfect. Great work!

Thank you all for your kind words...

I am still working on the face calligram, I have already got some new ones created but I am still trying to make it look better...

I am also thinking of using another script on the roundel, something that uses a italic nib...? :hmm1: Perhaps it is a chance for me to learn a new script?

Thanks again, I will be sure to post updated versions of the above designs later.
