Sailor is my hands down favorite.

Today, that is.

Easy -- Sheaffer

They work, and work well

Targas, Snorkels, use them every day

Sheaffer still repairs the Targas (I use 3 everyday) at no cost, replacing nibs,

converters, and even the white dot in the pocket clip, and returns them

post paid with 2 or so cartridges. They will even will send black if you request black.

You can't ask for better service than that

This poll is for pen companies or manufactures only, not for models of these companies.

Say you happen to like a Parker 61 or 21, forget the model entirely, and just say Parker if that is your all time favorite company from all other companies. It is not about model but manufactures.

If you like more that one manufacture pick only the one you that is more important to you, or you like better than the second choice.

The purpose of this poll is to find which companies should receive, or deserve a spot in the list of 'Brand Focus group'. Meaning based on popularity of the group members by fair votes. (The poll list was taken from ebay listings of pens.) Hawk

I like various pens from all these manufacturers, so this is a tough one to call. However, if someone pointed a gun at my head I would go for Waterman as the brand that is closest to my heart.

Is it surprising that Sheaffer receives the most votes (other than Other)? These folks must be voting for old Sheaffers. Or there are a lot of people who like bland design. Perhaps there should be a new poll: which pen brand consistently produces the blandest product?

My favorite brand isn't here: Bexley.

I voted 'Other' because my favourite contemporary brand is proably Visconti. A vintage choice is tougher still, though I suppose I'd end up with either Parker or Conway Stewart. (Or perhaps Mabie Todd/Swan - see what I mean?)

This in no way implies that I think there should be a Visconti forum. There are quite enough already, thanks.

I guess I am pulling for an inclusive place to talk about pens not exclusive forums to talk just about one particular brand. So we are FPN not the Parker forum, Waterman forum... who happen to reside in FPN.

I agree completely. Well said, Kurt.

Esterbrook it is for me. It's the first vintage pen I've owned and I have never looked back. I have the Parkers, the Sheaffer's and hey, I even have a Tuckersharpe. All pens I have are vintage except for my Lamy Safari FP

Pelikan Forum?

Even if I am discovering Japanese pens/nibs, Pelikan is my favorite beacuse they write well in cheap paper and do not suffer damage (a medium nib, that is).

People that know me won't be surprised at my choice at all. Wearever, the dirty little secret of so many pen collections.

I didn't vote because I can't choose just one. My favorite pen is my Bexley Sheherazade, but I love my Lamy Safaris (and Al-Stars) - I must have seven or eight of them - and my juicy Parker 51. Though... I don't particularly like another Parker 51 I have, a fine point. I also enjoy writing with my old burgundy 146 MB that Mr. Binder smoothed out for me.

It's much more pen dependent for me rather than brand, but I'm a collector in the sense of gathering pens I enjoy using, not as 'collections' per se.

(Though some of those gorgeous Wearevers look like they'd be grand to write with!) :D

It is hard for me to vote because I have a preference for three brands that are my favorites: montblanc, parker and pelican. My 146 which was my christmas present is now the pen I use the most. Before that I used my 1960 parker Junior for the whole year 2005 after my Duofold was badly repaired and before 2002 that same 1960 parker junior was my daily pen.I don't own a souverän m1000 but I have written with my uncle's model 1000 and it is going to be certainly my next pen.

As what goes for vintage Mentmore pens as well as Sonnecken pens are great pens. But to be honest, Parker has certainly the widest and most interesting stuff when it comes to vintage fountain pens.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Dennis, it's time for you to publish a photo book on Wearever pens!

It's a tempting topic, but yeah--it's hard to choose just one. I could see qualifying it by categories such as value(economy), innovation/daring, rugged, and elegance.

Mine would be these:

  • Value: Lamy
  • Innovation/Daring: Parker-Sheaffer tie (overall, many close behind)
  • Rugged: Rotring (followed by Pilot)
  • Elegance: Aurora (Montblanc on heels, Waterman following)
