Thank you for the review and images. I too was going to buy the ink, thinking it must be a dark greenish black (based solely on name) and now that I have seen the images, I will look elsewhere. I don't have the pennies to buy novelty ink. I am just getting started using a fountain pen at work instead of ball points. I bought a Safari with a medium nib based on reviews I read for a starter pen. I really love it. I am using the blue cartridge that came with it. On my cheap paper it looks blue with a hint of violet. I really want a black with a hint of green or a dark blue with a hint of green. That Noodler Aircorp Blue/Black looks pretty as does the Noodler's Squeteague. Any suggestions? :happyberet:

My suggestion: Using a separate container, start with some super-bright green ink, and add black to it drop by drop till you get what you want. (You'd be surprised how few drops of black it takes, compared to how much green there is.)

It matches the name, it's the green of the seal

true.

yes, it is pretty close...

but when i think of the green of a usd...

i think of the green on the back of the note (greenback ;) ).

it just seems that that green is a bit darker than the seal/serial number green.

And as an aside, is the Old Manhattan "Blackest-Black" really that black?

Not really, IMO. It's black with a noticeable green tinge. The blackest black I've found is Swishmix Nile Ebony.

I totally disagree. Someone earlier said that Old Manhattan was the green of the back of a dollar bill, and they must have been talking about the bank note green.

There is NO green tint in my Old Manhattan black, and it is easily darker than my Nile Ebony in 3 different pens.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

The sample I tried was from one of the earliest batches. Nathan may have tweaked the formula since then. The scan of Old Manhattan in Pariah Zero's review does look very black.

Other Noodler's that might work for you: Zhivago (black with a hint of green), Midnight Blue or Manhattan Blue (dark blue with a hint of green). Manhattan Blue is sold only by Art Brown.

thanks. i got the ellis island and love it and will be ordering the manhatten blue for my blue ink. i also like the idea of adding black drops to green. i think i'll get that ink mixing kit form private reserve.

by the way, my sister bought me a bottle of pr sherwood green. don't like it. i guess it is ok to use once a year at christmas, but not everyday. it is so thin. i don't know the proper word but i had to put it in my safari extra fine just to use it. it's messy. i love noodler's. i think i will stick with that brand.

If you love Ellis Island, I bet you'll really go for Manhattan Blue. I have two bottles of it, and there's a creamy smooth consistency about it that is unlike any other ink I've ever tried. Lovely color, too. :cloud9:
