Ink For Montblanc 149

Hi there,

I am expecting a Montblanc 149 in a few weeks. But I was wondering which ink to use.

I heard all over the place that you only should use MB ink, but there are lots of people which use different brands.

So what would be a good ink for a 149 with M nib.

Hi,

When I received my 149, a bottle of the Blue-Black was included. I still consider that pen+ink combo to be a premier writing experience. So I will suggest the MB Midnight Blue. INK_LINK

If you do not care for BlBk inks, then perhaps the MB Royal Blue. INK_LINK

Bye,

You can use any ink in any FP, as long as it is an ink made for FPs.

MB inks are great, even in any other pen. Any inks in any MB pen are good, as long as the MB pen is good (har, har). My 2 faves are MB blue and their blue-black (in the bottle, which is an iron-gall ink). Especially for my Pelikans. But most of the other MB colours are good too (IMO). Sort of expensive but not unreasonably so, like, say Iroshis. The new MB bottles are among the best bottles yet. If possible, get any inks in theire newer bottles. The older ones were similar but less convincing, at least as re their cap closures.

If you want any other "foolproof" FP inks, start off with Diamines (at present 100 varieties; MB has "only" 8 plus a handful of specials).

Thanks for all the help sofar :)

When it comes to ink: how good is the Iroshizuku ink compared to something like Private Reserve and Herbin or edelstein ink?

I have a few bottles of Iroshizuku, but they are "kinda" expensive. But I must say the ink itself is amazing ;)

Aurora black--but I like really wet pens.

I used to use Shaeffer black in my first 149.

Now I use Platinum Carbon Black--very high maintenance ink--I would not suggest it unless you have the tools to take apart a 149 to really clean it every so often!!
