I had no idea such service existed. Now all I need is to save cash to get down to one of these centres to measure my hand writing, or in my case, my sketching style. I'd love to have one that is suitable for sketches and handwriting in the same time (if it is possible). Now that'll make my money's worth....

I have a platinum music nib and find it a real pleasure to write with. It is a very fast nib excellent to take notes, sign a document, just scribble. In fact i have not been able to make it railroad for me yet. I think the "hit" is that it is just a different nib with two slits, it looks very sharp and always a source of questions. Its just something different.

Quite unique service! I know that the other nibmeisters out there are doing the same for you in custom tuning, but not always face to face. I wonder if anyone ever thought of getting the equipment to engrave a name down the side of the nib like that?

 

I'm thinking that the extra width and the fact that music nibs are meant to put down really wet lines the two slits give more place for the ink to flow thus increasing the flow to the paper for quick skipless writing.

There is a small imprint on the side which can be customized as visable in the picture showing the three different nibs in my original link.

 

E.g. the Paris boutique had a special run with the address of the boutique stamped into the side. There are pictures of this in this forum somewhere.

This is interesting, but is certainly not unique let alone a good value. Even if you do not have a local nib doctor, for what MB charges you could take all your pens and visit a nibmeister. Or you could get a Nakaya and be done with it. MB is genius at getting people with too much money to part with some of it. I love my MB pens but 600 euros base price for a custom nib grind is more than a little nutty. For that price more than the pens nib should be ground.

I agree, the price is high, but I would not expect it to be any less. I agree that you can get a good nibster to work on your pen for less than $50, a re-tip around $100, but as far as I know, there is not a nibster out there that will create the exact nib that you want, and add engravings that you want, for any price really... Does Nakaya do this? If so, thats awesome! There are a few Nakayas that Ive really liked, so that would put me over the edge to buy one.

Ive found that having someone engrave, not electroplate or stamp a one off nib, is a very rare thing. Ive looked into it for my special editions, and the minimums for specialty engravings is in the 100s in each nib size. So 100 Fine, 100 medium... And so one...

 

So I guess in conclusion, my opinion... Is it expensive? For sure... But, until someone else can compete with this kind of thing, I dont think its too much of a stretch... I wonder, does that include the cost of the actual nib, or just the modification of a pen that you already have...

Music Nibs are necessary when the nib tip becomes so broad and the ink flow rate needs to be wetter than a standard nib and feed can manage. A standard construction nib just cannot keep up with the ink demands of a very very broad nib drawing a high ink flow.

 

That 6B MB Music Nib looks ideal for use as a highlighter.
