Blotter?

Love the green on black, very cool.

I am wondering about other things that can be used for blotter paper. I found that the card stock that they print our water bills on is perfect. And it's flexible enough to be able to lay it down with out smudging the ink.

Does anyone know if the stock they use for matting pictures would work? It has a raw finish and I think I could pick up a few scrapes that would have been discarded. Might be convenient for use at work since I do not take my blotter to work.

I bought a large sheet of Strathmore charcoal-sketching paper at an art supply store, which I've cut into smaller sections to use as portable blotting paper. It works for me.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

A very nice desk-blotter, Bookman! I like it.

Thanks. Everyone who uses fountain pen ink ought to have one. Everyone who uses slow-drying inks needs one. When you finish writing, flip the paper over, lay it on the blotter, anchor it perfectly still, rub the back side behind the writing, and voila! No waiting, no smearing.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

PS: checked Curry's in Barrie, Loomis ,Tern, & Wolfitt's in TO., buy no joy.

Tinta,

Try calling Phidon Pens in Cambridge Ont, or failing that, Laywine's in Toronto.

The folks at Phidon are really enthusiastic pen collectors, and have the best collection of pens and accessories in the country. Larger and more unique than Laywines (no disparagement meant to the fine folk there). If they don't have blotters in stock, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Failing that, call Laywines. I don't recall seeing any blotters in the store the last time I was there, but I wasn't looking for them, either.

I'm sure either or both can help you out.

Hope this helps,

D.

IIRC Restorer's Art in Toronto (D. Armstrong here on FPN) has large sheets for sale. You could probably arrange for local pickup and payment.

Thank you all, both North & South of the 49th.!

I should now be suitably armed to hunt down the elusive "large sheet" blotter.

Cheers: Istvan

Does anyone have a source for desk blotter refills in GREEN, other than The Elegant Office? They want almost $10 a sheet after shipping, and it's usually $10 for a half-dozen or more!

I want the desk.....

I want a desk like that. One big enough to put a flat screen monitor some meter or more away, and the leather pad built in.

I went to a live auction, and they were selling Wankel's office and library. I wanted that desk...that was functional and good looking and properly wide, as an Engineer of his quality would had make.

It was not fancy enough IMO for the antique guys...so I :puddle: was waiting. Whoops!!! some local museum put in a bid of €20,000 for the whole smear.

I was over at the museum this week end to look at the exhibition of walking sticks. My wife pointed out some of the furniture from that auction. Not all in a room just isolated 'period' pieces. But I did not see My desk.

Some jerk put it in his office and not on display. :gaah:

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

One tip is to try printmaking supply stores -- blotting paper is often used to help evenly moisten paper sheets before putting them in the press.

In the US, I think McClains is one of the best printmaking stores. In the UK, try someone like Lawrence. Continental Europe, I think 'Greatart' do some.

Cheers,

David

Edited to add: some of these are decent-size sheets: Greatart sells 50cm x 62cm sheets (~19 1/2" x 24 1/2"), and Lawrence 61 x 86cm (~24" x 33 3/4"). Utrecht in the US have some here.
