Smart Papers Synergy Bond Laid Paper

Okay, so Staples (Canada, but probably other countries too) sells laid paper in packs of 100 sheets for under $10 (some is $9.83, some is $7.80). It comes in white and natural/ivory. Since it looked very similar to G. Lalo Verge de France that is very popular with fountain pen users, I thought I'd give it a go.

This paper is VERY similar to the Lalo. I have a pad of the ivory, and the Synergy natural is less yellow than the Lalo ivory. The Synergy doesn't have a watermark, but the texture and everything else is pretty similar. For the price, the Synergy is a much better buy, in my opinion. As with most (all?) laid papers, one side has more tooth than the other. The paper is quite toothy and provides good feedback. It is not as smooth as Semikolon, but again very similar to Lalo. I tried several inks and nibs on this paper, and there was no feathering or bleeding, and virtually no showthrough (the slight echo shown in the photo of the backside of the page below is not really visable in "real life").

Overall, highly recommended if you like paper with feedback. If you have any questions about the paper, feel free to ask.

Thanks CreakingLemon, that's a nice review. I'll have to see what my local branch has.

Thanks for the review CreakingLemon.

I've been interested in buying some pads of this recently, but was holding off. I'll be sure to pick some up on my next visit!

Don't see this at Staples online. Perhaps not available in the USA, or under a different name?

I haven't visited Staples online in a while, but in the stores themselves this paper is found with either the business stationery (where you find business card kits) or with the "nicer" stationery (ie: the coloured paper and envelopes)... It isn't found with the pads of paper or computer paper and card-stock.

Perhaps you could look in a different section online?

oh... hold on a second...

In the hard-copy catalogue (that I happen to have sitting right beside my desk at the moment), Synergy Bond is found under "Paper: Business", which is a different section than computer paper, loose-leaf, and pads.

Hope this helps,

D.
