I utterly disagree with your political assessment.

The USA? Inferior goods? What are you talking about?

There was a time, long ago indeed, that the USA was accused of producing inferior copies of European designs. But that is way before we were born, in the 18th century, I believe :)

Besides, of course the English had their grunge for accusing the Americans of copying/stealing their machinery and designs.

"Made in China, Made with the World."

Ever seen that ad?

No, but that does make sense since they are the world's factory.

Indeed, that is how we entered into our own industrial revolution. Thomas Somers of Boston had to steal descriptions of how cotton mill machines were made because no British manufacturers would sell to him. Samuel Slater (a British immigrant who worked in an English mill) contracted Moses Brown to copy the machinery used in the mill he worked at to be built in Rhode Island.

Most early American colonial furniture is based on English and French design (the good stuff that the landed gentry bought).

Remember that 'made in Japan' was once the sign of inferior goods. No longer.

so was "made in USA". every country that ramps up its domestic production by exploiting cheap labor goes through the same learning curve.

I utterly disagree with your political assessment.

It's not a "political assessment" it is an historical fact.

The USA? Inferior goods? What are you talking about?

Someone needs to brush up on their 18th and 19th century history. :roflmho:

It was a fact that Japan produced inferior goods. I am old enough to remember this in actual life, not just from hearsay, texts, or college professors who love to use the word 'exploited.'

I'm not old enough to remember the days when american industry produced cheap knockoffs of european originals, but there is ample evidence that they existed. There is also ample documentation to show that cheap labor was a factor in the rapid industrialization in the northern US. This is an extremely typical evolution: industry moves in because things are cheap, costs rise, and either the economy switches to higher-value production or things crash until costs are low again. China will do the same: they're in the "low cost" sector now and are trying to move into the "high value" sector. Their labor costs are already rising, and the real cheap labor-intensive stuff is heading to even less developed markets. FWIW, I put a lot more stock in well documented research than individual anecdotal accounts from people who have some kind of chip on their shoulders against academics. It also seems from your response that you went off half-cocked without actually reading what was written since your point seems pretty much the same as mine, just a lot more irate (about something, I'm not sure what).

Oh yes now I have a real one in my hand and compared to the fake nothing come close to how good the original is. Plus it holds more ink and fills the bladder so much easier.

Why make fakes of a cheap Parker 51 clone anyway. So funny lol.

I just got a 10 pack of 616 Jumbos from isellpens and 9/10 work great; I have one inked up here at work. The bad one has a crack in the plastic under the aluminum cover for the sack. I may try to fix it with model airplane glue. I hope Hero continues to produce these. It's nice that not all cheap pens are cartridge converters.
