Review: Pen Wraps From Exbpens

Recommended Posts

This thread has "forced" me - forced me I tell you - to order one of her pen cases as a Christmas present to myself.

This is an absolutely amazing looking wrap. Definitely hook, line and sinker, they have me too.

You all are too kind - thank you. I have to confess that I am pretty slow! But I do love to make useful things!

My wife is an avid quilter, but I hadn't really thought about asking her to do a pen wrap - until thread reopened. Elizabeth, I've ordered your pattern (just yesterday, my time), and now know what I'll be getting for my birthday, next time it comes around... Thanks for making the pattern availabe!

BTW, your 'signature' line still has the old website (www.exbpens.com) - you may want to update it.

Just changed my website link in the signature line (I think : ) and in my profile. Thank you for the alert!

And let me know if you have any questions about making the pen wrap. I will alert your wife now that the measurement for the ties given is probably a bit short -- I've been holding the tie material up to my nose and stretching my arm full length as the right measure -- a bit under a yard.

Hi Elizabeth,

Thanks for that - the link in your signature line looks right now. Will let you know if my better half has any questions - appreciate the kind offer!

As a follow-up to my May 16 posting, I wanted to post some pictures of the latest wraps I received from Elizabeth. This is a first for me using Photobucket, so I hope it works - and that the pictures do justice to Elizabeth's work. If these first pictures work, I'll post a few others.

For any of you all who have one of these wonderful three-slot wraps, could I ask you to measure one for me? Specifically what I would like is the finished overall length, finished width, and the length of the inner fold (the pockets).

I actually downloaded the instructions a couple of years ago, or at least I thought I did, and now I can't find 'em. But I already know how to construct one, so all I need are the dimensions, if anyone has a moment to get a ruler and measure your own. Both inches and centimeters are welcome; I can operate a metric conversion widget with the best of 'em, so whatever's easiest for you. And thank you!!! :)

Hello, Daisy --

The raw peices you need for the pen wrap have these measurements (I work in inches - sorry; someday I will update the instructions to include centimeters):

Outer and inner main peices: 13" high x 6.5" wide

Inner pocket: 6.5" high x 6.5" wide

outer band: 13" high x 3" wide

When they are sewn together the measurements of your final wrap will depend on the width of seams that you use. I use something a bit less than the 5/8" standard I was taught in middle school : )

If you find that you need them again, the instructions are here:

Have a good time sewing and let me know if you have questions.

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth! Thank you SOOOO much!!! Inches are fine with me; I just didn't want to scare off the metric folks. :)

That was *exactly* the information I was looking for. BTW, I don't do 5/8" seams either; mine are usually right around 1/2" or even slightly less on pretty much everything I sew. I'm not sure exactly where the 5/8" came from, but unless there's double stitching, French seaming, or a future need for alteration it seems kind of pointless to me. Fortunately, there's usually nobody around to tell me how wrong I am. :)

Whatever you're doing; it's clearly working -- every time I see one of your wraps I notice the neatness of the hand stitching, the accuracy of the placement, the beautiful coordination of the prints, textures and colors, and the care that you obviously put into it -- so keep up the great work, and thanks again for your kind assistance!!! :)
