I just got back on FPN after an absence of several weeks, months, ...

The title of this thread caught my attention.

Love it.

Inspired me to add a few pics I took lately.

1. A private parking lot in Seattle

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6141/6036778491_8ac26002bf_b.jpg

2. A building on a Main Street cutting through a small town somewhere in Minnesota. No, I didn't drop in, so I did not find a sumgai pen in it (that is another story I'll be telling when I take the appropriate photos).

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6146/5995253627_281d38bcbd_b.jpg

3. In his recent travel book, The Roads to Quoz, William Least-Heat Moon writes about miles-long trains carrying nothing but coal, running on tracks parallel to the main highways in Wyoming. I caught the source of this kind of cargo while I was burning gasoline travelling full-speed (well, even more than the speed limit) on the I-90 somewhere around Gilette...

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6018/5968807066_2e9fabbfba_b.jpg

4. The Geographic Center of the USA, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. So many French names throughout the Western Plains. Guess who were rambling around the place long before Lewis and Clark explored the area?

Ok, some pictures I took of San Antonio, Tx with the point-n-shoot. Beautiful city (downtown) with a mixture of old colonial (Baroque) Spanish buildings and Art Deco. A must see!

The Missions

http://inlinethumb35.webshots.com/46690/2455162730105226730S600x600Q85.jpg

It is very common to see unfinished buildings (bell towers especially) because the churches were built with charity money, alms. Also, with time the wooden roof located at the posterior part of the church, collapsed and was never rebuilt.

My girlfriend and I went I believe on a weekday. It had been raining cats and dogs all the time, being this an evening after the rains, hence the solitude of the place. At its heyday, this was completely the opposite for this was the living center of the walled mission: marketplace, animals, smiths, what-have-you would be here.

Now is out of the city in its centenary solitude and peace. Gorgeous place!

Colonial Baroque. In Spain and Italy this would be carved out of stone and not limestone as I saw in San Antonio.

Sonia,

GREAT PHOTOS! THANKS FOR SHARING.

Here are a few more of mine from my recent vacation to England's Lake District, Scotland and Ireland. I love castles and gazing out of castle windows.

Kathleen, like the shot from the window and stained glass.

A few more.

I really don't remember what was this for. Didn't look as part of a kitchen, but I don't remember. I just liked the play of different lights and shades in the room.

*Funny, but most people here in USA think Guadalupe is a Spanish or Native Mexican name but its origin is to Arabic and latin.

Cheers, Kai! I like your foggy day shots, too. Evocative. I like the movement of the car particularly, in the first one.

I feel like I need to get my eye back.

The photos in this thread are inciting my wanderlust!

What a great couple of days for pictures! I'm loving all of these. Sonia, San Antonio is one of my favorite cities in the south, love Mi Tierra even if it is touristed. Awfully hot in the summer, though.

Lisa & Kai-I'm envious of the black & white shots. I really need to start trying that. Love the Providence ice shot!

Kathleen-great stuff! I've never been to Scotland (I've been to Ireland, even kissed the Blarney stone!), but your pictures are, as Lisa said, inciting my wanderlust, too.

Upthread Kathleen posted some pictures of Edinburgh Castle. At the other end of the Royal Mile is the Palace and Abbey of Holyroodhouse. Photos are not allowed in the Palace, but I took a few of the ruined Abbey:

MARVELOUS photos StephY,

We walked the same city but your eyes and camera captured things I did not see, and places I missed. Three days were not insufficient time to explore all of Edinburgh.

I love your pictures of the Abbey. The architectural detalls in the palaces, cathedrals and castles of the UK are magnificent. You did a great job photographing them. I especially like the second and third photo here.

THANKS FOR SHARING!

Jon thank you for starting this thread and to all who share in this thread, THANK YOU! I enjoy it thoroughly, each and every photo!

Incidentally, this was taken on the lowest-image-quality camera of my crop, a Panasonic FT-1 waterproof effort. I was very pleasantly surprised. Photoshop helped.

When you're good at it, it's really miserable.

Lisa, very nice and evocative pictures, goes with the mood of the music. Reminds me very

much of those cold days when I felt very lonely while living in Manhattan. Like if the buildings would be silent witnesses of the humanity passing by through the years..not a word spoken but their eyes upon the changes of time. Love that music!
