My wife and I just got home from a trip to the Palouse country of Southeastern Washington State. Here are some photos of typical countryside scenes there. This is mostly dryland farming country.

We found this old truck behind a 1950's vintage Texaco station. There was a 1955 Chevy police car there too.

After saving up for many years, I finally got my first DSLR a couple of weeks ago, a Canon Rebel T5/1200D, so I've been using it at every chance I get!

This past weekend was our county fair. There were two rodeos. I posted the Friday rodeo on another fountain pen site, so here are the Sunday rodeo pictures. (Actually, there are 200+ pictures, so I'm picking and choosing.)

It's kind of gratifying that I was asked if I sold pictures by a number of people. Usually there is a professional photographer there. Not this year for some reason. Now, I don't sell pictures, but I do give them away, but, as you'll see, some are events that the subject would rather forget! Also, I have a friend helping out with the rodeo, so this year I paid a lot more attention to that side of it than I have in the past. The bullfighters especially really put themselves out there.

Returned from a two-week turn around south-western Ontario a few days ago. Apart from a quick passage through the area some seven years ago, had not been there for some time. It has changed. It seems they've been planting windmills around the country side lately. Also, wineries, more in line with agricultural practices. Will be reporting on my observations some time in the weeks to come.

For now, a few photos...

A trip down Talbot Road / Trail / Line, from Talbot to Wheatley, in Chatham-Kent and Essex Counties.

Seems they are switching from running on gas to running on coffee in Essex County... Somewhere on Route 3, South-Western Ontario

Wind is the new resource to farm... The closer we were getting towards Windsor ON, the more there were... Seems more profitable than cultivating tomatoes or other such crops.

The entrance to the commercial fishing port of Wheatley, Ontario. I was surprised to find out that there was still commercial fishing on Lake Erie. If ever readers are passing by this area some time in the future, stop at Paula's Fish Restaurant, on the way to Point Pelée National Park : the fish is good.

a pleasure to be back although I can't promise to post very regularly too busy working on too many projects will be giving a series of three lectures on the 5000 years old history of writing in the western world at the end of september at a nearby community college within the continuing education program for other retired people like me

the trip at the end of june was a turn around southern ontario a few days around hamilton and the niagara peninsula then another few days at the other end of the province near leamington and windsor with a day at the DIA in detroit then back through the kitchener area for a few days again on our way back home to montreal

be back with more photos of that trip such as the detroit skyline as viewed from windsor when I take a few moments to post-process other photos of the same trip maybe even including some drawings

that's one of the reasons for our having made that trip, to see the Rivera/Kahlo exhibit

for my part, I also spent some 90 minutes in the African-American History Museum

wished I had had more time to spend in that museum, really enlightening in view of what has happened these last few months

it added a lot to what I experienced and learned on this topic when travelling very slowly (seven weeks) along the Eastern Atlantic shore from St. Augustine FL to Long Beach NJ a year ago

a wonderful exhibit, really worth travelling more than 2000 km just to get there

The joys of being a photographer - one day you are taking photos of motorcycles screaming past at insanely high speeds at the British Super Bikes Championships, the next day you are quietly sat out in the New Forest photographing owls! Sometimes I quite like my job!
