During my recent trip to Florida and back, travelling slowly, sticking to the coast like velcro, I visited a few lighthouses ; even climbed nine lighthouses up to the very top. Some were too distant, and inaccessible, while others were not open to the public.

1. Barnegat Light, also called Old Barney, on Long Beach Island, New Jersey

2. Assateague Light, viewed from Chincoteague, Virgina

3. Bald Head Island, better know as Old Baldy, near Southport, North Carolina. No longer operative. Even if experts knew how to restore it properly , many people would not approve. They like it as is...

4. Morris Island Light, as viewed from Folly Island near Charleston SC. Originally built 1,200 ft. from the shore. Now stands in the water and is no longer operational.

5. Tybee Island, near Savannah GA

6. St. Augustine Light, on Anastasia Island. As seen from the inside, looking down, from near the top -- 219 steps to get to the top, at some 165 ft. above sea level. Still operational.

Very nice! Been to the top of Barnegat Lighthouse several years ago. Those old lighthouse keepers must have been in great shape!
