Here she is - as promised:

Great shots here lately!

David, this looks just like the one my younger son (also a David) caught last summer and is keeping for a pet. Still can't believe SWMBO allowed it.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments!! - It's nice to receive enthusiasm for an activity that's so personal...

-as I'm sure foxtail1, JohnP and others know, digital shots of Nature can be "luck" as much as skill; for every four shots of the Garter (Garden) Snake, there was just a single "keeper" because the DOF was so short and she would move without warning. I have a cool shot where she's "tasting" the air that I produced, but came out a little too blurry - I could post it, but it's not as impressive as the one I've already put up.

Regarding the "natural" world, IMHO, Nature's creatures are best left within their environment; rescue of a wounded creature is noble, and "pets" are best left to Animal Shelters and individuals who have proper supervision, if not "trained" in such matters. Both Man and Nature are at risk when it comes to holding Nature against her will...

Perhaps someone could clarify "SWMBO" for me...

- But we are all free to make our own judgements and decisions with such matters of Nature.

I'll post a few more...

Thanks again everyone for your comments!!

Regards,

David.

It's a term more recently popularised from a BBC drama Rumpole of the Bailey, where he referred to his wife Hilda as "She Who Must Be Obeyed", often shorted in today's speech as SWMBO. It's perhaps not alone in that source, as H. Rider Haggard also used the term in his book, She, and I've seen several other references over the years.

interestingly enough, there is no corollary term as HWMBO... I wonder why ? :hmm1:

This is the Routhierville bridge, a covered bridge built in 1931. It crosses the Matapédia river in the town of Routhierville, Québec.

I love visiting this thread! What marvelous photos! Love the black and white shot of the steam tractor mechanism and the snake shots are really incredible! The slug, and butterfly shots are wonderful as well. Thank you all for sharing!

Wonderful pictures, Andy! I've not been by here much lately (busy!), but there are some great ones (you might enjoy the Wonderful World thread in Chatter; some of your pictures would be perfect there, too).

These are a couple that are of the natural world, but maybe not considered beautiful by all... The first is a macro of what I believe is a goldenrod crab spider.

Thanks! I am not able to get out and about with the camera as often as I would like due to work, but really enjoy the days where I can.

Will have a look at the Wonderful World thread.

Kai, as I commented on one of your pictures on Flickr, I have really enjoyed your Japan shots. That Golden Pavilion shot is one of my favorites, and the geisha made me smile. Thanks so much for sharing your trip!
