Hey Dude, you're getting too close!

Had he been as large as he looks here, I'd have kept my distance... I did think he looked like something out of a horror movie, with that patch above his mouth that appears to be sewn on, something I couldn't really see until I pulled it up on the computer.

...A camera (another P&S, Sanon SX40) is on its way...

Y'know, I've commented for years that, "The camera in your hands when you need to take a photo is infinitely better than another one with neat techno-tricks that's not there !"

I can't always bring my kit with me on business trips, but "even with a P&S", it's possible to gather some moments in an image. Here's one shot with a Canon SD780 from an early morning transiting through O'Hare on my way home from work in Virginia. I did straighten the image along with a slight crop, otherwise, that's how I saw it.

I have another comment that I've made for a lot of years relating to my photography, "Always shoot."

John P.

Did I call it a Sanon? Heh.

John, I agree with you. Some of my best shots were taken with a Canon Elph or some other iteration of the Canon deck-of-card-size P&S. I love those cameras for how portable they are.

But I've been experiencing frustration with my current "set-up" of two Canon P&Ss (P&Ses?), having to switch back and forth depending on what I want (and these being less spontaneous photos). So the Canon SX40 HS ought to bring some relief, as it combines the features I like in the other two cameras -- in a bigger, bulkier package, yes, but smaller than my Nikon D80.

The SX40 arrived yesterday (obviously opened, probably a return, but nothing seems to be wrong with it, no defects, no damage), and I've been learning it. I took a few small (640x480 or maybe slightly larger) shots with it to post in the "Don't Just Tell Us About the Pen You're Using" thread. Merely expedient shots. I'll want to see how it performs in set-ups -- as well as spontaneously.

*Crosses fingers*

That's a great shot, John (btw)!

BTW where on Earth is Miyako and her photos???????????

I miss them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm serious.

Oh wow! I haven't checked this thread in a while -- and look at all these stunning photos! Wow! So great!

I just ordered a Canon SX40, Sonia -- yeah, a point-and-shoot -- but I have plans for it. I gotta get back into my photo groove. This thread helps! Seriously, wow!

Lisa

Well, through other cyberspaces you know I'm alive 'n kickin'...but I have been taking a vacation from FPN...to avoid burn out and to be able to stay here for many years more :P!!!!

Y'all:

In a nutshell:

Haven't done much of photography recently for I am gathering the pictures in groups so I can print them (not at home anymore!!!). So many pictures and money spent without even exhibiting them it's...it's just unacceptable ;).I cannot keep on shootin' n shootin' and the have 10,00 pictures!!! I have intentions of moving the slow and rusty gears towards selling and exhibiting the photos (the local ones).

Also job has been crazy with the new Obama healthcare changes. Within an election period they want to drastically change the way medicine is practiced in the USA and well, many mistakes are being made for non-medical people are the ones making important decisions on how we healthcare staff should treat the patient$.....oh well, let me shut up.

The above has me very, very drained and Brain only wants to play stupid video games... got better now reading Quantum Mechanics  and Stephen Hawking :cloud9:.... The last pen I bought was a Pilot Prera in P!nk (ahah) and partner gave me a beautiful Van Gogh Sunflower for B-day in October. A few Iroshizuku inks -Momiji () and Kiri-same ( :( a bit disappointed for I thought it would be a darker gray). Not much. The hospital will completely eliminate hand-writing orders in two weeks which is good for now we won't have to try to decipher MD chicken-scratch hieroglyphs....but then bad news for my pens :bawl:.

Same ol'same ol'. But good to be somewhat back.

Nice pics, y'all! Jon, you're getting better!!!!!!

oops! kinda repeated myself here....

Nice lightning, Sonia!

I stood out watching an approaching storm recently, snapping away, hoping to catch a strike. All I got was dust in my eyes, and the incoming winds threw stuff at me. Not a single strike in 200+ pictures! (It was late afternoon, so I couldn't leave the shutter open for any length of time.)

B)

I was lucky that night there was only light rain, no wind and lots, lots of lightning. Camera on tripod, remote in hand and shoting in several speeds - finding out that Bulb was the best speed I could use. I would just sit (in my back porch) and wait and wait with the open shutter until ZAS! Lightning struck and then close the shutter. Some took 90secs, 30 secs, depending on the lightning.

All have very small apertures -i.e. f11, f16 and low ISO speed - 100, 200.

Here they are in color, the original form.

Here the whole sky light up. I like this one for it seems daylight but you can see the street light on -something that only happens at nighttime.

Lol, thanks Sonia you know I love your photography too. Dont print in the next corner pharmacy lab, I think you only could get there standard prints, if you are going to expose in galleryes and sell, get your good Epson Stylus whatever printer, you can edit there with photoshop and get extraordinaire atractive results. Greetings.

Lisa, you remind me of your adored Kerouac or of Robert Frank. Dont forget to carry your old slr camera , remember that many magazines dont accept digital photos even in 16 megas, also some of them dont accept 35 mm film, or medium, only big format. Good luck, take care, I hope to see some of your photos here in the next months. Greetings from México.

There was lightning the afternoon I tried, but it was sporadic. I'll try again some time.
