@NeelsK: Fantastic stuff! thanks for sharing! Your macro shots are wonderful!

@Sonia: I usually love your pics, and I think you have a great knack for getting B/W contrast right when you convert them. Nevertheless I think this pictures are "too busy". I love the symmetry of the last one though :)

@lovemy51: Rather nice :) I'm not an experienced photographer at all myself. Just keep on trying and some will come out like this! Beautiful!

Yeah, they are very busy...but I like them . I'll tone them down nevertheless. Thanks for the input!

I'm enjoying all these new contributions (& contributors!). Sonia, I always like your stuff, but that next-to-last one is very nice! Love the Merced River picture, Neels' are great, especially that last one (and the pigeons!) So many good ones! I've slowed down some lately with staying busy elsewhere, and inside a lot for cold weather... Need to get back to it.

Mardi Gras is starting soon, so I will set up the atmosphere here in FPN cool.gif

These were taken last year at the Orpheus Krewe parade. These guys are called "Flambeaux" or flame carriers. Because in the late 1800's there was still no public street lighting, these guys would carry the torchs and gas tanks that would light the parade and the floats...a pretty risky job. It is a family tradition handed down over the years.

One one picture was processed. No HDR, just handling that explosion of reds..ninja.gif

Nice effect, Skyppere!

Sonia, great Mardi Gras pictures! Especially love the second & third ones. I would love to make it down there for that some year...

wowie Neels didn't think anything could energize me today! Great shots.

Me too - going to peek at you pics!

Heh, thanks :)

Can't make my mind up, so I photograph everything ;) I haven't been as active with my photography as I would like and the rest of this year will probably be slow too. Projects, deadline, work. GRRRR.

That is a lovely old bridge pillar. Pity it is being taken over by the new concrete stuff.

There are parades for the drunk and rowdy and those for the family and kids...it depends on time and location; the closer to the FQ or the Convention Center, the drunker the people are. unsure.gif

Skyppere, love that color accent. The incident light is just gorgeous in you r shot. ha! looks like my desk on a busy day at the office sick.gif.

Neels, any photo is welcomed here, no matter how recent or late, especially if they are good.

WOW! I haven't checked this thread in a while. You guys rock! Neils K -- I LOVE your macro shots of flowers especially (I mean, what great shots you posted)!

Sonia -- Great B&Ws! I really like the color shots of the parade, too -- I love the motion in them.

Here's one of the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco I took the other night with a Canon P&S, manual settings:

Deirdre, you got Paul McCartney in Liverpool (that must have been a [words fail me] concert)!

Here's SF Sketchfest's Tribute to Eddie Izzard (in conversation with Greg Proops). Greg had asked Eddie about his role as Long John Silver in Treasure Island (not yet released), and after some discussion, Eddie said that he had the trailer, but, essentially, it was useless cos it was on his phone. Greg insisted on watching it, told the audience "too bad!" The audience thought it was hilarious.

So here's the conversation interrupted so that Greg could watch the trailer for Treasure Island (shot in B&W, SOOC):

P.S. This was at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre the night before last.

One not-so-natural world shot in color (the "miniaturizing" effect, a setting on the Canon P&S) of the Bixby Creek Bridge on Highway 1 (aka the Pacific Coast Highway):

The top one looks like an expertly drawn illustration, and the bottom one... I love the light on the tips of the stamen. Well done!

That is beautiful! It's one of my touch-stones that I visit EVERY time when I come out there. What a time that must have been for the Pan Pacific Exhibition...

Thanks :) Glad you like them. I've been doing some extreme macro for a while too. The problem is that there is just so MUCH detail that you get lost in the photos. This is probably one that I liked the most:

I don't want to post the full sized version here, but you can see it on flickr. Believe it or not, that is a closeup of this:

Thanks, Skip! I know what you mean about touch-stones. San Francisco is filled with them for me (probably for you as well). I would LOVE to have been at the Pan Pacific Exhibition. It's a shame this is the only structure left, but thank goodness for it!

WOW! That is gorgeous! And the full version is lovely, too, but WOW! That is a flavor explosion for the eyes!
