Jon, even like than one better!

Thanks! I still don't have much confidence in my black & white, but I'm practicing...

Re; Old Griz's "horse holder" statue pic.

I'd always heard them called lawn jockeys.

Now Tom is most correct in you not seeing them very much anymore. I realize I don't get out much but I was pretty surprised to know WHY they are such the "statue non grata" that they are now.

Without Googling for it, who else knows WHY they are mostly hidden away now?

PS; There are many wonderful pics here.

And swans!! I particularly like the one with the swan close up and the deep depth of field (pardon the redundancy).

I`ve tried several times to obtain a photo like this. Given the camera specs, I`m pretty happy with the result.

I also have to say I enjoy this thread (and several similar ones, on other boards) very much, as it gives me the opportunity to view so many wonderful photos. I realised I enjoy looking at other people`s photos just as much as I like taking them myself.

Warm regards from the now cold land of the Dacians, which the Romans struggled to conquer and never entirely succeeded. I`ll get some pics of ancient walls as soon as possible.

Very nice! I've been wanting to try something like that, but so far haven't. I would love to see the ancient walls in person someday, but for now will look forward to seeing your pictures!

The walls can and have been found all over the city and modern buildings have been elevated on top of them. In some situations, parts of the ruins were enclosed to form a sort of open-air museum:

In one case, a hotel was cleverly built on top of the walls, without burrying them in the foundation. This first picture shows some walls behind the glass, it`s not very visible but it`s there:

Wonderful, fascinating pictures, lspriluc! Around here, it is rare to find buildings 100 years old. I find the concept of consistent habitation in one place like that very interesting indeed. Thanks for sharing them.

Something a bit different. I love this photo from the family picture archives. My great aunt is the little girl on the right. I might caption this, "Dolly Dear, Please stop staring at me!". I find the doll's position and expression central to the appeal of this photo.fpn_1323920101__22244_1197822507097_1274526463_30497414_3278956_n.jpg
