Oh! lspriluc ,addendum:

You can be a master of technique (bet you've heard this quadrillion times) but if you do not have a good "composition", you just took a nice picture. There are septatrillion debates regarding this subject... with me it's just something I see and say oops! lemme shoot that. I made a little experiment in Flickr competition groups. Pictures I painstakingly stood there, measuring the light, getting right the f stop etc...did ok... but the ones I took fast because either I was on a hurry or the subject was moving away..are the ones that are winning a lot of comments!!! Go figure...

Thank you very much ladies, you are very kind.

This one was taken with an old and smashed Fuji J10, low-end point and shoot. Regarding what Sonia said about composition, it would have been just perfect without the half-ship, the one with the C on it. I tried to crop it a little, but it affects the proportions of the image.

Personally, I don't mind it because it does not take attention away from the main subject: the sun. I like it. And here I will agree with you regarding the " purity" of the shot: no processing. Smashed and all, it gave a very sharp definition of colors and shapes. thumbup.gif

an image doesn`t start with the camera, it ends there

roflmho.gif Oh Lawd!

I kept reading, here`s another one. These are just as funny as Chuck Norris facts.

Amateurs worry about cameras. Professionals worry about lenses. Photographers worry about light.

Ispriluc, it is my bad behavior and maybe against the rules, but this time I just coulndt resist to reinterpret your beautiful photo I hope you wont be angry with me. I gave two thirds to the sky and one third to the water leting all the information even the reflections of the ships in water. the light in the last C ship is the tail of the comet that comes from the sun connected by thebridge and hits the two ships. Nice river, is it in Rumania? does it have bass fish? I dont like the palm tree in the extreme right. Once again Ispriluc forgive me, I think I dont have goodfpn_1321317422__i_58_copy.jpg manners at all.

What you did looks great! I love it and I don't consider it a sign of bad manners.

It's not a river, it's mostly the Black Sea. I'm not sure if that's a palm tree, I'll have too look closer on the photo or visit the placee again. "Mostly" because the pic was taken in an area that connects the sea to a lake through a (several miles) long channel. They built a shipyard in the area and that's where the pic was taken, a few months ago during the summer. The two ships are still there. Among others, the lake has carp in it, some catfish and a small species of brightly coloured bass, we call it sun-bass.

An interesting feature of the lake is that is a fresh water lake and is also inhabited by a species of small sea fish that have adapted to fresh water.

WOW, thanks Ispriluc, I suspected it was the Black sea because the size of the ships, I love bass fishing. As you know there are thousand ways in even junk photoshop CS2 (mine), so many that I dont remember which ones I used hours ago with your photo I would love you go in editing, its apity I dont have right now nik color efex ( my trial finished a year ago lol) but your photo is for a curtainsky red, purple, or violet but a red is the best fit not much saturated( descending from top sky just til the line of water). Good happy life to you in Rumania. Greetings from México.

Took this a while back and is a favorite among people.

I can see why. I like it a lot, it's relaxing to look at it.

Childs, black and white, thirties and forties, reminds me of Helen Levitt. She lived in México too.

Jon! I have not abandoned you!!!! I like the texture in the shots and I can see your predilection for details, objects vs the open landscapes. macro fits you well thumbup.gif

Cuando vayas a Madrid chulona mía,

voy a hacerte Emperatriz del Lavapiés,

Y a alfombrarte con claveles La Gran Vía,

y a bañarte con vinillo de Jeréz,

En Chicote un agasajo postinero,

con la crema de la intelectualidad,

y la gracia de un piropo retrechero,

mas castizo que la calle de Alcalá.

Agustin Lara.
