I would LOVE to go to the Mayan ruins...anybody here has been there???

Went to Chichen Itza many many many years ago - quite the fascinating place!

Chichen Itza is fascinating, indeed. I would also recommend Palenque. It is a more uncomfortable trip-more off the beaten path, and, at least when I went, very hot, humid, steamy. But beautiful! So interestingly constructed, so many things discovered there.

Fernan! Whoa -- I'm going to drive through Wisconsin, Montana, and the Dakotas, probably sooner than I think (!), and wow... your photos....

I also want to visit Quebec. Fernan, do you and JSL1 (Justin) Pen Posse? I might not make it this year, but it's on the list!

Sonia -- ruh roh... (*bites nails*)

Deirdre -- What? Wait, whoa, wow! Turkey... WHO KNEW?!

Montana, the Dakotas, all beautiful country... I only went through the northernmost part of Wisconsin, in less than two hours. But it's nice.

It's a long ride... wide open country, big sky country Montana calls itself. Hundreds of miles of plains, once you cross the Rockies.

Sorry, I don't do Pen Posse (and never met JSL1 - should I have had the opportunity?). Too much to do with the photo club, the Ottawa Fountain Pen Society, the tennis club, and all other activities... and most probably moving to Montreal within the next 12 to 18 months.

ps. I only saw Turkey from a distance... on a boat and from the Greek islands along the coast. But from what I've heard, it's really worth the visit.

Tuscany is on my wish list for the more or less near future... Other places also, but then we are limited to one life only... and... it's going along much too fast...

ps 2. just a word of caution, watch out for these fellows when you go through the dakotas.

met this one in Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.

they are big, don't like to be bothered, they are heavy, and they can run fast...

Edinburgh is such a beautiful city.

Was there 31 years ago, and I still remember it well.

The people there are so friendly.

The pubs are great.

Oh! Did I ever tell anyone I got my introduction to scotch at the University of Edinburgh Faculty Club one night I was there? Do I have to add that I don't remember getting to my room, but I do remember how I felt the next morning...

So many other stories to tell...

I know, right?

Sad thing is, I've been within 100 miles, but never gone to that spot. Sigh.

Love those shots, Pedro! I lived in PR (Caguas) for a year as a child, and I would love to go back.

I particularly like the sugar plantation shot. When I was there, I believe there were still mills operating.

My Daddy was from Caguas -del valle del Turabo, like he always said.

I have a bunch of pictures from Puerto Rico that I have to dig out of my computer...stay tuned...happyberet.gif

Our house was in Rio Cañas, on the northern side of Caguas. We didn't go to school in the barrio, though. We drove into Rio Piedras every day to a school that doesn't exist any more, called the Island School. I'd love to visit the island again as an adult.

My mother still lives in a neighborhood near Río Piedras, "Dos Pinos". Do you mind me asking when was this?embarrassed_smile.gif

Sorry for the delay in replying - I had very limited internet access down in the electricity-free Irene zone.

It was 1969-1970.

I wanna go to Cappadocia, Turkey!

And elsewhere!

I want to go to Pamukkale!

Now you've done it. You've given me an excuse to add pictures from Cappadocia and Pamukkale to this thread. I'm too tired to upload them tonight, but tomorrow...

I liked both places, but for different reasons. The colors at Pamukkale were amazing.

Hmm, where to start. I guess I'll start with an assortment.

First, my favorite from Pamukkale. It's not the best shot of the colors, but I really like the town and mosque below.

Hillside in Cappadocia. These cave homes were occupied until 1952, when the Turkish government made everyone move out of their underground homes. According to what our guide said, the residents built homes right outside their previous homes.

Underground cistern in Istanbul. When we were down in the cistern, I kept thinking that it looked familiar. Then I remembered the James Bond movie, From Russia with Love. There were many scenes in the movie shot in Istanbul, and some were shot in the cisterns.

One more for tonight. This is at Pamukkale, in the Necropolis. This guy was sitting on a tomb.

Corner to the Pontalba Buildings in the French Q.

I particularly like this one for it sets a mood, a mysterious one like in the "Film Noirs"

http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6181/6084338657_020072544f_b.jpg

This is just at the right of the previous picture; Decatur Street with Café Du Monde at right, Pontalba at left. I love Foggy nights in black and white pictures for they give such a softness to what could otherwise be harsh tonalities.

A few more...

This was at the museum in Antalya, originally discovered at Perge. I had no idea that glass dated back that far.

Another Spice Market shot, Turkish delight!

http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz261/foxtail1/delight.jpg

I loved the lighting on these boats. We were getting ready to cruise up the Bosphorus, and there were a number of these neon-lighted boats docked nearby. That is the New Mosque in the background, right beside the Spice Market.
