Sky High is still my favorite sheening ink I've come across thus far. So beautiful. The only ink in my collection I own two bottles of.

It is a stunning color. Definitely my favorite "medium" blue. Not only is it pretty, but it has a great behavior profile too (at least, for my tastes!).

Great macro photos, with beautiful handwriting to boot, Shaylen.

I don't know if it's my eyes that need correcting (oh no! not another increase of power for my glasses), or you are simply gifted with super sharp eyes. I have yet to see the sheen in Kosumosu (loaded in my Pelikan M205 M nib) by normal viewing. I received my Kosumosu ink today (I was half jumping while going back to my desk with the package in hand, letting my colleagues wondering what's the fuss with bottled inks and fountain pens anyway?). Well, maybe I just need to write more with it first, or use a broader nib.

Anyway, thank you so ever much for sharing those gorgeous macro shots. They are so mouth-watering! :puddle:

Keep the nice photos coming (as they are so inspiring for a novice photographer like me).

Love,

Jules

 Thanks for such high praise! It's really all a matter of the right elements- no talent of my own!

First, paper which shows it in the first place is muy importante. Then a wet pen, and lighting you can see it under (the CFL bulbs in my desk lamp work magic).

And sometimes my camera catches sheens I can't see myself.

I had always hunted for sheen with Kosumosu too... and it's there, but it's NOT at all blatant... not like with other Iroshis.

Great thread, Shaylen. Thank you for presenting so many samples of different shining inks. You managed to capture them so well in your photos.

I was mainly using more absorbent paper until recently. Only after I started exploring different types of paper I’ve noticed this charming property of inks. Good quality paper definitely contributes a lot to whole writing experience.

This sample is written on Rhodia DotPad with TWSBI 540 (1.5mm). Ink is P.W. Akkerman #05 – Shocking Blue;

Very nice catch, and thanks to everybody for the continued contributions!

This ink looks very similar to Sailor Sky High, do you have any experience with that one, Halid?

Unfortunately no, Shaylen, I don't have any Sailor inks so cannot comment on resemblance of two. However, there's a floating rumour about Akkerman inks being made by Diamine. I believe a close match can be found in their line-up.

Interesting information indeed! (And some alliteration to boot! :bunny01:)

I suppose I'll just have to keep on buying those Diamine 30mLs to try them out. What a terrible chore!

How much of what we are seeing is the "sheen" compared to an ink separating?

For example, my J.Herbin Anniversary Ink has separated in the bottle and I believe it is doing so in the pen as well. Below is an extreme close up. What do you all (ya'll) think?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well, IME, it doesn't so much "separate" in the bottle, as settle. It requires a good shake to re-disburse the gold flecks. I'd say what your picture shows is just the extreme variation you get from this ink, depending on how wet the line is. If it's dry, it looks bright red, sometimes almost pinkish... But when it's wetter, it looks more blood red, sometimes even more earthy and brownish/orangey-er and it has that gold/green sheen. JMHO, though.

Apologies for the absence of images to demonstrate this, but I can't seem to get a decent picture.

I get a fair bit of gold sheen with PR Tanzanite and a wet Danitrio stub nib, but I was taken aback by the Diamine Bilberry that had been sitting around in a Platinum PKW-5000. Bilberry and Tanzanite never look the same colour in any of my pens anyway -- Bilberry comes up much darker -- but in the Platinum, the Bilberry dried to 100% bronze sheen with both the F and XF sides of the nib. (Papers used were what I had within arm's reach -- Midori, Tomoe River, and Smythson's Featherweight.) By 100% I mean that this wasn't just highlights on the denser patches -- it was consistent across the entire surface.

It's the most sheen I've seen on any ink, including Herbin 1670. I hadn't noticed it before, and I'm not sure if it was the result of the pen sitting unused for a couple of weeks, but it's spectacular.

Hi Karen, thank you for this. Please do post some pictures, I am so excited to hear about the behaviour with Bilberry, its on my want list so it would be just great to see a shot!

I'm failing miserably at capturing it. I need to get a better camera. Or develop more proficiency with the one I've got...

When I tried again today, though, I gave the bottle a good shake and filled a fresh pen, and I still got a fair bit of bronze sheen.
