Inks With A "sheen"

I saw the photo of the Sailor Rikyu Cha above (first image from #702) and I am after an ink like that. Dark black-green with sheen.

I looked at some other reviews of Rikyu Cha and it looks more brown. Is this the case?

If so then can anyone recommend a black/dark green with sheen?

I've read back to page 14 on this thread and alot of the blacks seem to be pure blacks with a silver sheen or purple-blacks (PR Velvet Black).

I looked at the PR Ebony Green but wanted more of a black-green rather than dark-green.

I might look at PR Ebony Blue.

How sheeny is Kyo-no-oto Nurebairo?

The best way to describe what I'm after is like the green/black sheen you get on a cormorant's feather.

What ink did you find/decide on?

The suggestion that came to mind is Sailor Miruai, which a few others have also suggested.

Using some green inks today, to recall what Ireland looks like when we're not having a drought!

Montegrappa green has the strongest sheen, followed by Pelikan 4001 dunkelgrün. Montblanc Irish Green has a faint sheen, but only when applied heavily, while the Montegrappa sheen is the only one that turns up in normal writing. Lovely ink :)

I’m interested to know what the definition of “drought” is in Ireland?

There has been zero rainfall for several weeks, and there is an official drought advisory in place.

As of today, the met service is reporting that “There will be some alleviation in drought conditions in places this week. However there will be little initial reduction in soil moisture deficits as evapotranspiration rates will remain high”.
Fear not - we'll soon have the sou'westers out again :)

No pix yet, but I just got a bottle of FPN member NickiStew's custom ink made for him by Diamine, Randall Blue-Black. And I was getting a bit of sheen on cheap Piccadilly sketchbook paper. Pen was a Lamy LX with an M nib.

How's the flow and behavior of Randall BB?

So far the flow seems good.

I haven't finished evaluating the ink and comparing to similar teal-toned blue blacks, but I think the ink is starting to grow on me. Although I kinda made a bit of a mess with the first fill and haven't got QUITE of it off the top of my laptop.... And was really glad I still have a jar of Ink Nix....

I am sorry for your difficulties due to the brief spell of dry weather and understand they’re real and concerning. I love the article, especially, “... temperatures in excess of 28C”. The absence of rain and the temperatures sound just like our regular Autumn weather. Reminds me of last summer when we were staying on Stewart Island (New Zealand) which is located about 35Kms south of the South Island. We were advised that the island was in the grip of a drought and there was fears it would run out of water. When I asked what was their definition of a drought, I was told, “Five days without rain.”

A supremely generous benefactor (just call me Pip!), has sent inky gifts. Here are samples of the new Diamine super sheeny inks, Skull & Roses, and November Rain.

Skull & Roses: The base color seems quite similar to Sargasso Sea, but with intense RED sheen.

Now, November Rain: I like this as a dark and somber green —very much like pine forests on a moody fall day. The sheen is quite intense. I compared it to J. Herbin's Emeraude de Chivor, and they have quite distinct base colors.

Diamine inks have always been a quit a bit "sheeny". See as far back as my post # 202, of Diamine Bilberry.

Not sheeny fer sheens sake, like the now infamous Organics Studio's David Thoreau, but naturally "sheeny". I may hafta try some of those new Diamine's. (skull/roses, Nov rain), as I'm now getting more happy with the green side of things. ;)

Shout-out to all sheen aficionados and aficionadas...

Having seen a few inks in my day, I'm looking for a good sheening ink in the gold or brown range.

And it might help if I give my definition up front:

for me, a sheening ink is one that when dry and viewed from an angle in strong light, will show a shiny contrary color layer on top of the base color of the ink.

For example: my favorite ORANGE sheener is Krishna Halloween Orange (SILVER sheen); my favorite RED sheener is Herbin Rouge Hématite (GOLD sheen); my favorite PURPLE sheener is Lamy Dark Lilac (GOLD sheen), my favorite BLUE sheener is Krishna Moonview (RED sheen —and no smearing!), and my favorite TEAL sheener is Herbin Émeraude de Chivor (PINK sheen).

So does anyone have any suggestions on a GOLD and/or BROWN ink that has great sheen?

OOO MOONVIEW!! Where can we see it?

Let me say that I've adored the Krishna Jungle Volcano it has a green sheen.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Jungle Volcano is wickedly amazing. It's one of my top favorite inks.

Here are a couple of shots of Moonview.

The money shot of the sheen isn't the greatest, but it'll give you an idea of the juicy redness of the sheen:

I remember seeing sheen on Iroshizuku's two browns Yama-guri and Tsukushi, but a rather subtle sheen. For more gold leaning browns I can't think of any that sheens.

Thanks for the reminder of Tsukushi! That might be a good option...

I usually don't go for deep, dark green inks, but the special qualities of Diamine's November Rain and Sailor's Tokiwa-matsu have won me over. The two seem similar at first, with NR having more of a blue cast, and T-M having more of an olive cast. When seen directly above, they look like dark green inks:

But then, if you look at an angle, the magic begins:

Close-up views are amazing. Even the wash with a swab sheens:
