Inks With A "sheen"

I lied, I had two more (that I know of, anyway)

Private Reserve Electric DC Blue on Staples Bagasse, Dip Pen. (Please remember, these are shown specifically to catch the sheen, not to be a proper representation of the ink color):

I've found that the paper sometimes makes more difference than the pen when it comes to seeing the "sheen". The Staples Bagasse, Rhodia blank and Rhodia Dotgrid papers that I have all have a tendency to make the shimmer effect appear. Oddly, I have some lined Rhodia paper where the "sheen" almost never shows up with the same inks in the same pens. So if you are trying to recreate the effect, you might want to play with your paper choices more. That said, it is easier to see in a pen that puts down more ink so M or B is more obvious than an EF or F but it is usually still there.

I agree that Diamine Majestic Blue has a sheen and so to does the discontinued Parker Penman Sapphire. Both have a reddish sheen, though the actual blue colour is different.

I wasn't so sure if this one had a sheen or not, but from the pictures, it looks like it has some gold flecks.

Sailor Jentle Ultramarine, on Staples Bagasse, Lamy Nexx 1.1 nib

This one has a very pretty sheen. Typically with blues you see a red sheen, this one appears to be more gold.

Thanks for sharing these colours and pictures with us!

Omas Blue is another one. I got a note written by Brian Goulet with this ink, and it had a very nice sheen to it. I'm considering purchasing a sample of it!

Diamine Coral: another one with a slight sheen that I doubt you'll see if not using Staples Bagasse. BUT- it IS there!!!

Pen used was a Platinum Preppy 05.

I spilled some Iroshizuku Ku-jaku on a page of Staples Bagasse today and it formed a beautiful dark red sheen. : )

Though it's less pronounced and less shimmery than the Sailor Jentle inks, and probably not enough to show in normal writing.

Ah yes. I have a sample of Ku-jaku, and will be adding it to this thread once I ink it up again! I firmly believe that the shimmeriest ink I have ever used or seen is Sailor Sky High.

Fellow sheen fan very much appreciates these shots, but the wallet does not! You really got secret down to capturing these. :puddle:

Thanks Michele, and sorry to your wallet! My "secret" is my camera's macro setting, the lighting at my desk at night, a wet pile of ink, and Staples Bagasse!!!

Hi, Shaylen,

I'm looking at the Jet Pens (jetpens.com - no affil) to order Sailor inks. I'm fascinated with "the sheens" now! I like Epinard and ultramarine. Is the Sailor Jentle Sky Blue the same as Sky High?

Thanks for any info!

I assume so, I have always called it Sky High, but I may be wrong. My bottle and box do not have any name in English, so I am not sure of the "official" name. I purchased mine from Goulet Pens, here http://www.gouletpens.com/Sailor_Jentle_Sky_High_p/slr-13-1000-241.htm

Thanks for the info! Goulet has the inks for cheaper, too, if I buy more than two inks. So many to choose from and so many with sheen! I will have a tough time narrowing down my choices.

Cheers!
