Thanks Vis! I love Cardinal Red.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Diamine Cult Pens' Deep Dark Purple has incredible sheen. Don't love the color (TOO dark), but it really makes an impression!

[sorry for the deluge of posts, but I just discovered this thread.]

Private Reserve's Burgundy Mist is a crazy sheen-monster:

If only all monsters were so pretty!

I've never seen that particular combination.

I purchased the Sailor Jentle Ink yama dori specifically because of the red sheen. I received a letter from an English pen pal asked what ink produced the sheen and immediately purchased a bottle and have really enjoyed it.

This is Iroshizuku Yama-budo that was sitting in a pen unused for about 3 months. The ink still looks red on the nib, but now writes brown and dries to a gold sheen. I haven't noticed this effect with this ink before.

Almost acts as if it were an iron gall ink. Interesting. Beautiful!

I've been experimenting with Yama-budo. I put a small amount in a dish and left it exposed at room temperature before writing with it. There's some slight gold sheen in the ink even straight from the bottle, but this significantly increases if you leave the ink to "mature" for a couple of days. I guess that what's happening is that the water in the ink is evaporating, increasing the metallic content of the residue; so heating the ink gently would probably produce the same results.

The ink samples below were done with a dip pen on Rhodia paper.

Is it too obvious and corny to say that this would be beautiful for the inscription inside a greeting card? (I tend to buy blank cards and write my own sentiment.) It's really striking.

Not corny at all! That's certainly the type of special use that these inks were meant for, it seems to me. [Great avatar, by the way!]

Thanks for showing these side by side. I didn't realise 24-48 hour evaporation would make such a significant difference.
