Diamine Racing Green

Recommended Posts

Michael, I might recommend doing side-by-side paper chromatography tests with simple coffee filters like I did in some other review threads, including this one with MB RG. It's really easy, and gives you a better idea of the colors included (or not),

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

This is a small 'swatch' done in Photoshop based on the Pantone reference in the link. The colour ICC Profile is sRGB IEC61966-2.1

Maybe this will give people a start to work out a passable alternative the the MB colour.

I do think that MBRG is a great color, but I can't help but thinking that the reason that MB stopped producing the ink was poor sales. When it comes down to it, it is the bottom line. It is not like this ink was produced from Moon Rocks from the Apollo missions, and MB has finally run out.

You were NOT supposed to discuss that in public... that's where the grey color quality comes from...

Sorry, but I have to make a call...

My gut feeling is that the marginal cost of production, distribution and marketing is a lot lower for the specialty ink houses (Noodler's, Diamine, Private Reserve, etc) so they can probably afford to keep low volume inks in their catalogue where a manufacturer like MB cannot.

FWIW, I've been playing with water soluble inks and water brushes after reading a cool post on the Goulet's ink blog, Noodler's Sequoia in a dry pen, or perhaps diluted a bit in a wetter one, might make a good off the shelf substitute for MB racing green.

Cheers, Ted

So whatever happened to the Nooder's Verschollene Grün?

I see in that thread linked in the first post that there was talk of a possible bulletproof version?

I've got a bottle of that....I can't remember which sample it was that I got many months ago from Rolf, but I would have to go find it in one of the many boxes. As far as I know there was not a definite production run of it.

There was a limited number pre-production run of three different versions of Noodler's Das Verschollene Grün. So far no new ink bottles have been delivered.

Cheers

Is the identity of the manufacturer of these discontinued Montblanc inks generally known? Or is it a well-kept secret?

Hello All

I took the time to go to the London show UK yesterday from another 29c day in October :).

A rather disappointing experience. By 14.30, some dealers were already packing. By 15.30, half were gone. So I did not see everything.

Rude attitude in my opinion. People were paying £6 to see a lifeless room. And less dealers than last year. NM

During my round, I found a German dealer who had on show few bottles of Diamine Racing Green. Apparently, he made a deal with Diamine to have made 500 bottles exclusively for him. Price: £12. A bit steep. I did not try it as it was not on offer.

Why would Diamine go exclusively to one dealer, when RG could be sold everywhere?

This is Missing-Pen isn't it? Perhaps it's a shame Diamine didn't look at the interest in the original MB BRG ink before giving such (limited) exclusivity. If they had, they might have concluded that they could eventually sell far more if it was included in their normal range in both bottle sizes. Apart from confirming the situation, the e-mail reply I had from them didn't offer any explanation.

I think that an off-the-shelf option, at about half the price, is Diamine's Evergreen. I'm really pleased with that and my recent purchase of Zhivago completed that colour range nicely.

Of course, should Diamine sell the RG at the usual Diamine price, well that might be a different matter.

Sorry to hear about your London Pen Show experience. Today's Hamburg Pen Show was grwat!

About the Racing Green: Actually it was the other way around. Rolf from Missing Pen got in touch with Diamine to get this bespoken color; similar like the Exclsive Noodler's inks.

Cheers
