A Prize Worth Writing For ~ Penmanship Contest

pb2

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I was inspired by all the great work here and thought I'd post my own attempt. I don't know if I qualify for the competition (this is only my second post and I have a tendency to draw letters rather than write them) but if anyone enjoys looking at it a tenth as much as I enjoyed making it, all is right with the world.

PIP - Pens: I used my entire rotation, the twins (a pair of identical Noodler's Flexes) and a broken hobby store Scheafer (let's call it — leaky).

Paper: Strathmore bristol and a no-name white card stock that feathers like a molting parrot (more so when wet)

Ink: Noodler's Nightshade

Inspiration: when my heart overflows, normally so does my inkwell.

That is cool!

OMG .... Yes, I'm gushing with WoW from these entries. Like Wow!

Sorry, no words are working ... more of an emotional over-appreciation than words can express.

My tongue is obviously falling short of the pen of a ready writer.

And we still have time for more. Hmmmm!

Many very good entries so far. Here is my humble contribution.

Pens: Lettering with a Hansa fountain pen, drawing with a Koh-I-Noor rapidograph (an old piston filler).

Inks: Lettering with a 5:3:2 mixture of Skrip Red, Waterman Purple and Waterman Black. Drawing with Koh-I-Noor black ink.

Paper: Southworth Gold Fine Parchment

There go all of my extra points for drawing the cool quill!

I was feeling pretty good about my entry about 20 submissions ago, but each one is better than the next!

Final answer

That's quite a nice ink colour! Do let us know if you ever figure out the recipe.

Hello everyone, I'm a calligraphy fan from China, and I'm fond of hand writing in both Chinese and English. I just noticed the contest today, so I accomplished the writing in a short time.

the Pilot Parrallel ink fade/colour shift is excellent - I'm not sure i could get two lines so well matched - bravo!

I'm not sure how you were able to do this in a "short time", it is so beautifully crafted. And I really like the way you blended colors to gradually move from red to blue. Would you be willing to share how you accomplished that?

I agree with River, each one is better than the next (although "better" ... I'm not sure - some of the early posts are pretty darn good), and I just can't believe the imagination and creativity we are seeing. Sure am glad I'm not judging!

Pendleton, please remind what time the contest ends. I'm hoping for a big flurry at the end!

just in case you don't get an answer

see this you tube clip from Goulet Pens re: Pilot Parellel pens

touching nibs starts your pen running with the "borrowed" ink - as it clears the principal ink takes over

lovely blending is possible

As spiv said, I use two Pilot Parallel pens, and put one nib on the other. Therefore the color of the pen underside will be changed. And the more time you do so, the longer color changed.

Thank you both for the very kind comments. I had been planning what I would do for some time during the past few days. Execution took around 3 hours.

EasilyAmused - nice idea to reverse the colors for the two sides - plus points for creativity.

Esov - thats a lovely entry. Your choices in ink color perfectly compliments the mood for the work. I like it a lot.

countrydirt - thats a very good looking hand and a lovely shading ink (mix).

Heineken - thats a very nice composition. It doesn't look like it was done or conceived quickly.

hlyuqi - what can I say - impressive as usual.
