Italix 'parsons' Essential' Fountain Pen.

I have the fine italic nib in a Parsons Essential, and it is a very smooth nib - not scratchy at all.

 

I also got me a fine italic - smooth as butter and easy to angle!

 

The website says the fine italic is "slightly cursive" due to the way it's cut. Do you find it closer to a cursive italic, or more like a true italic.

Thank you for posting this. It's odd—I cannot see much line variation, yet it still adds some real character to your writing, I think. Maybe I'm imagining that, but either way, it's a nice writing sample.

 

Well, keep in mind that a fine italic would produce the least amount of line variation anyway, compared to broader italics.

I'm convinced.

 

Now all I have to do is find the cash (which is the difficult bit at the moment given that I'm trying to buy a 4 axis CNC engraver/router for pen making). The CC looks amazing and does the PE and most of the rest. Ho hum.

That's why I've changed my mind and changed my order from fine to medium italic. When someone finds out how to purchase extra original nibs please let us know.

I just got the Medium Italic and I'm enjoying the line variation so far. It takes some practice compared to XF/F nibs, or even regular M nibs.

I must be one of the Italix pens biggest fan: I have two Essential pens and two Originalis pens (and 2 extra nibs) and 2 CC on order (to be fair one is for a friend).

 

For me the Originalis actually show more line variation as they are not as 'wet' pens as the Parson's. Parson's though are just fantastic pens and they are the ones I use on a daily basis while the Originalis pens are being used for Calligraphy purposes at the moment.

I agree - even without much line variation, the writing looks and feels different than with a non-italic nib of comparable width.

I am considering to get one but I was suspected if it would be hard to position the fine italic nib at the correct angle, would you tell us how fine italic writes?

No, it is not scratchy at all. I use it for regular writing - including taking notes. It is smooth and not too finicky about the writing angle, so unless you are among the minority that tends to rotate the pen while writing, it should not give you any trouble.

Since everybody is asking for writing samples, just wondering when everybody praise Parson's pen and don't we still have writing samples of all nibs somewhere on the internet? Isn't that kind of weird?

 

All I know is they offer a nib chance chance to you within one month I saw when I purchasing, I hope my medium italic turns out a useful nib, or I don't know what would be the best for me, obliques or stubs or cursives?

There are writing samples out there with some rave reviews, and they look beautiful. What I haven't really seen, but which it sounds as if I'll see soon (!), is a writing comparison with various nibs on these pens. All thre reviews I've seen so far feature only one nib, so it's hard to directly compare and figure out what you want.

That's what I pulled from just the first few pages of this topic. There's mediums, italics and broad italics in there. I'm pretty sure there's a Fine Italic writing sample in this topic somewhere, or at least somewhere on FPN. Just search Parson's Essential and you'll find a bunch of topics.

 

No I am not, I appreciate for your effort, I checked them several times before I purchased one but I say all nibs compared all together with a same ink if possible, like nib nook in goulet pen company web site, you can compare all nibs on sale on thickness and writing style there. Nib choices increased at Mr. Pen since I've purchased my medium italic, it arrived coupla hours ago, and now I am interested oblique italics and cursive stubs (There was no cursive stub options last week) Now I have a medium italic nib for thickness comparison I would like to get an oblique italic or cursive stubut b and I don't even know how or how thick they write. Now would I be asking too much from Ör. Pen? I'll ask them anyway.

 

About the pen I got iI played with it less than an hour, first 5 minutes tines made a creaking metallic sound after that it's gone (noı the pen is real smooth I just heard metal sound) with Sailor Jentle Grenade. Medium italic nib samples are abundant but I couldn't resist.

 

here is my beauty's scribblings :

Yellow: Noodler's Rome Burning with Lamy Vista left handed nib (No I am not left handed but it gives good results to my eye, distinctive.

Blue: Platinum Blue-Black with Noodler's Ahab (not flowing good)

Red Sailor Jentle Grenade with Italix Parson's ,Interest medium italic

(The most flowy ink I have along with Noodler's Baystate Blue)

I would say the initial review has had the intended impact, and I am now considering a purchase of my own.

 

Does anyone have a broad cursive stub? I am looking for a bold line that would be my pen essentially for signatures. Any thoughts on the broad cursive vs. the broad italic for that purpose?

 

Also, how is the ease of nib rotation? I would consider ordering an alternate nib just for variety.
