Still no outlet in the US?

Shipping costs too high for me just now and nib exchanges would be out of the question.

I would buy these pens just for the names though.

I don't think we're likely to see an an outlet in the in North America. The Italix line from Mr. Pen is a bespoke operation: the nib on every pen is adjusted or ground to suit the person who is buying it.

I hope they don't expand overseas even though it may make the pens a little cheaper here,. I've seen several businesses that offered excellent, personal service like Mr. Pen does, lose that edge when the owner tried to expand into other outlets.

ooooh. Can you post any other pics, maybe of it capped, right now? Or can you give us an idea of the price point compared to the Parson's Essential and Churchman's Prescriptor?

Exactly the same price as the Prescriptor. UK ex VAT £41, pre delivery offer of £37. This pen has a huge nib (plated) which we like because it makes the potential for adapting it really interesting. The overall build quality is outstanding, I would go as far as to say £150 retail value. Which is the reason why we will never appoint distributors or retail outlets who would add all those profit margins. As long as it is just us and the end user, these prices will continue to represent unrivalled value.

Could I make one additional point about USA distribution, yes it costs £10 to get a pen pen securely to the USA, but US customers do not pay UK VAT (sales tax) of 20%. UK customer will pay £41 plus VAT plus UK delivery of £3.50, total £52.70. A US customer pays £51. If we were foolish enough to appoint a US distributor, they would want at least 30% and a retailer would want 50% mark up. The whole principle of selling direct would be lost, along with all the gains for the customer.

That's a sound economic policy. The only thing that bites is a 30 day return period, which practically means international customers have about 2 days to try it out before they're locked in. Then again, that's why there are reviews and youtube, so we can have a modicum of comfort before buying the pen without handling it ourselves.

Love the look of the new Captains Commission! If the nib is as smooth as the Parsons Essential it's sure to be a winner.

Just ordered one with a fine italic nib, and can't wait to receive it.

The Captain's Commission is available for pre-order already? Or did you mean another PE? Mr. Ford, how long is the Captain's Commission? The photo makes it look on the short side to me.

Hi Harlequin - yes, the Captains Commission is available now to pre-order(with a 10% discount on pre-orders) and is due to be shipped 31st July. I don't know any sizes for it. I agree it does look on the short side. Perehaps Mr. Ford will have more info. a bit nearer the shipping date.

I checked the MrPen site, and it seems the Captain's Commission is 5.7 inches long, capped, which means posted it would probably be over 6 inches. So I guess it isn't actually very short. I think it's just the pic that is giving that impression.

After looking at the new Captain's Commission some more, I have come to the conclusion that a set of all of these (the 3 PEs, a CP, and the new CC) would be SO cool. Not to mention they easily have the best names of any FPs I've ever heard.

It looks like quite a nice pen for any fountain pen collection.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

Thanks for posting, may I ask is fine italic nib scratchy due to smaller tip?

I am considering to get one but I was suspected if it would be hard to position the fine italic nib at the correct angle, would you tell us how fine italic writes?

Thanks in advance.

One boring blue, one boring black 1mm thickness at most....

Then there are Fountain Pens with gorgeous permanent inks..

I have the fine italic nib in a Parsons Essential, and it is a very smooth nib - not scratchy at all. :)

Thank you folks, I've ordered a blue one with fine italic. Hoping they'll teleport into my room within a few hours. :yikes:

Thank you for posting this. It's odd—I cannot see much line variation, yet it still adds some real character to your writing, I think. Maybe I'm imagining that, but either way, it's a nice writing sample.
