Apparently, mine have already shipped. They must work fast, as I had some engraving done. Now to wait and see how long it takes them to arrive here in Michigan. I'm really excited about this.

You won't regret it. I posted my little Parson's Essential story today. I just love that pen! https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/253056-my-parsons-essential-what-a-pen/

Great story! I'm so happy you found it again.

Holy cow! My Italix pens arrived already. I ordered them Friday, and they arrived today (Tuesday), all the way here in the U.S. I cannot wait to ink them up at home tonight!

I've just experienced the reverse journey! Ordered a pen on Thursday from the US and it arrived here in UK this morning. The Pond ain't that big after all :)

Apparently not! I also just got done using Facetime to talk to my sister in Shanghai. How small our world is becoming, at least in some ways.

Italix Parson's Essential Review

Last night, I received my Parson's Essential (fine stub) and Churchman's Prescriptor (medium stub). Here is my initial impressions of the Essential.

Also, for those who are interested, here are some writing samples for comparison.

To say that I'm thrilled is an understatement. The fine stub does exactly what I wanted it to. The line variation is quite subtle, but I wanted my thin stroke thicker, and will use this for writing in my journal, so too much line variation could make my handwriting tricky to read. And it feels like butter! I cannot tell you how happy I am with this pen. Of course, I did date my notes, and will probably update it in time after the initial excitement wears off. But maybe it won't ...

If you cannot tell, I am very happy.

Also, a note on the Churchman's Prescriptor I ordered. I couldn't get it to write out of the box. The nib seemed slightly misaligned with the feed, so I tweaked that. Still no luck. I made sure to use the same ink that worked so well in the Essential. Same problem. I was a get a very thin, dry line. I wrote to Peter Ford at Mr. Pen, and went to bed.

I woke up to instructions on what he hoped would work. I tried it first thing this morning, and unfortunately, no luck. Peter (or someone else at his company) was incredibly responsive, and he's already tested a new nib unit for me and it's on its way to me! That's less than 24 hours after receiving the first pen.

Now that is fantastic customer service!

Thanks for the samples, your Italix fine stub writes like lamy medium-bold, more like on the bold side. I guıess all Italix nibs writes like at least one size thicker in European standards, just like my crisp straight and oblique italics.

One boring blue, one boring black 1mm thickness at most....

Then there are Fountain Pens with gorgeous permanent inks..

Interesting. To my eye—and looking at the originals, not photos—the fine stub looks very comparable to the Lamy fine nib with the same ink.

Testing it out, that's right on. Good eye.

Thanks very much for posting the writing samples, especially with the comparisons. That's helpful.

Absolutely, as soon as I get a working one. (See above—the stub I originally received had some issues, but Mr. Pen's customer service has been outstanding.) I've actually saved the original writing sample sheet so that I can add it for comparison with the others.

Awesome. Thanks! I am considering an Essential with a stub, but I have yet to see a writing sample from a medium (italic or stub). I have seen Stephen Brown's "Broad italic", and it is beautiful, but maybe a bit too big for my handwriting.

That's where I came down. I figured the medium might be perfect. Although after taking work notes with the Essential's fine stub all day yesterday, that may prove the perfect nib for me. If so, and if the medium proves a little bulky, I'll likely ink the medium Prescriptor up for signatures, and get a Prescriptor fine stub for work notes.

  • 2 weeks later...

I must be one of the Italix pens biggest fan: I have two Essential pens and two Originalis pens (and 2 extra nibs) and 2 CC on order (to be fair one is for a friend).

For me the Originalis actually show more line variation as they are not as 'wet' pens as the Parson's. Parson's though are just fantastic pens and they are the ones I use on a daily basis while the Originalis pens are being used for Calligraphy purposes at the moment.

RuiFromUK, I can't seem to find many people who own the Originalis. I'd like to possibly purchase one. How do you like yours as compared with the PE and the CC (and the CP if you've gotten one since this post)? What three nibs do you use for it? Do you experience any hard starts or skipping? Please give me as much info on it as you can and post a writing sample if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Thank you!

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!
