Ok, I am good on the black waterproof, but I don't have a definitive answer on the following waterproof colors:

1. Dark, dark navy blue (without grey or tealish hews --- however, I have some very good suggestions that I will probably try this week), and

2. Waterman Florida Blue.

both of which need to be waterproof and functions very similar to Waterman inks (not too dry and well behaved).

Are you sure you want waterproof? For legal notes, OK, maybe, but our lawyers are more concerned with cleaning up ink-spills, if any. We scan all documents and shred the originals...it's too expensive to save the paper copies. Our customers -- banks -- seem to do the same. While there are still signature files kept when a corporation opens an account, or when a bank opens a correspondent relation with another bank, even those are shrinking with a new system called Electronic bank Account Management (EBAM), which uses a digital signature to open an account.

Of course, I don't know your practice, so you might need paper copies of some things.

Yep, some things some judges (or secretaries of state, or even some federal courts and offices) just will not accept other than the original signed paper document. We have a very diverse practice from probate and estate planning to civil and criminal litigation to non-profits and churches.

I don't think you'll find a definitive answer. People will like different types of inks. I would suggest you check out ink swabs or maybe order a few ink samples so you can see for yourself which inks work better for you.

In some things in life it's better to take a Zen approach. If you think too much you won't achieve your goal, wheras if you don't think and let yourself go, it shall be achieved with ease. I find this helpful in writing, kendo and music.

I use a lot of Regisrar's ink, which dries to a very dark blue tinged black. I get mine in 100ml bottled from this site:

But I think this stuff is identical to Diamine Registrar's ink

Hi Chris

I'd like to ask you about Registrar's Ink please. In your experience, is it a very dry ink? Do you need to use very wet nibs with it, please?

try some goulet samples of the dark blues, and see which ones you like!

I'm finding that BBK and Noodler's Navy function in similar manners, there's a layer that's dark and waterproof, while the blue likes to wash out (the colours are similar too, both after and before water).

My favourites so far for blue black are Sailor's Sei Boku (does not move at all. It somehow gets slightly lighter after a wash though) and Iroshizuku's Tsuki-Yo (more water resistant than water proof).

Blue-Black

Lamy Blue Black (Iron Gall)

Noodler's Ellis Island

Noodler's Manhattan Blue

Mountblanc Midnight Blue

Sailor Sei Buko - a very slight greenish tinge though

My Manhattan Blue isn't water resistant. There's a greenish component that is and leaves a legible shadow, but the blue part smears and washes away easily. Perhaps you meant Legal Blue (Art Brown) or Legal Lapis (Pendemonium).

Thanks for the correction - not sure how I missed your comment. I went back and realized I had meant "Noodler's Hudson Blue" for a blue black, not Manhattan blue.

Also wanted to add Noodler's Gulfstream which is also a good blue

I enthusiastically urge you to give Pilot Blue a chance. It is not extremely dark, in fact some would describe it as bright even, but I would simply call it a very true blue. This ink is as Waterproof as Noodler's inks are Bulletproof.

I personally have grown to love this ink, owning well over two dozen different bottles and having tried numerous samples, it has become my go to ink for both testing pens, and writing out sensitive documents. If you are unsure about the colour, get a sample from The Goulet Pen Company. If you decide on a bottle, I actually recommend buying from Jetpens.com, because this inks comes in two different brands in the U.S. Namiki, and Pilot. The Namiki Bottle is shaped in a lower and more wide curve, and carries 60ml of ink. The Pilot bottle is much more circular than oval, and carries 70ml of ink, but with a much more intriguing feature; an internal inkwell to fill the pen with ease, and to get the last bits of ink from the bottle. I find it to be a great value.

For black; Noodlers Bulletproof is the end all of permanent black inks.

I would try Diamine Registrar's ink for your Blue-Black colour, go to stylos.se, for a great price on it (Free of VAT with discounts, and FREE shipping!). I have not used it yet myself, but I only hear great things about it.

I hope you find the right inks for you, my friend!

Thank you my friend. So far I have taken your advice and the advice of others

I have the following thus far (Noodlers Bullet Black is coming soon):

Pilot Tsuki-Yo

Noodlers Navy

Noodlers Ottoman Azure

Lamy Blue (dark)

Noodlers Luxury Blue

All are very good, but have not quite gotten the color I desire(Waterman Fla. Blue), but I am enjoying them nonetheless. Thank you and I am continuing to monitor this thread for other suggestions. I appreciate you all.
