New White Meisterstuck Mont Blanc

I am looking forward to seeing some actual photos as well, instead of the publicity shots. Pity there is no MB boutique near me, and I have to head into London to see anything. Hopefully, I can pick up one of these when I fly out of Heathrow next month.

Oooohhhh interesting...

Do inform us as soon as you receive it! :)

I will do so immediately...

And that plain White star you mention, it should be Mother of Pearl from what I understand. :hmm1:

It's a dirty, dirty lie. And a true shame - I actually would have considered getting one if it weren't for that. It's not just, "Gee, a MOP would be nice on an expensive pen." I personally find that the plain white star ruins the pen and makes it sorta ugly in some ways.

I would predict that the granite star will be hard to capture photographically, but I will indeed post photos as soon as it comes. Again, no idea when that will be... :hmm1:

I discussed the whole cartridge/converter thing with the folks there, explaining that that was a go/no-go issue for me (if it were cartridge only, no deal). They called about it (presumably to their regional or national info line), and they assured me that it is a Chopin and that it comes with a converter and will work with either converter or cartridge.

So..... I ordered one with F nib. When it arrives, I intend to fit and fill it with the converter right in the store - if the converter doesn't fit or they were misinformed about it accepting one, I'm not buying it.

Very much looking forward to the result.

OK, so I just got back from visiting the MB Boutique in San Antonio. First of all, from looking at the Chopin-sized ballpoint (silver/white), this pen is gorgeous to me. The star/snowflake is *amazing*. And the only one they had was on hold for someone - apparently they have flown out the door. I'll post an update whenever it arrives (no idea when that will be)...

BTW - the porcelain pen is really pretty... except for the plain white star, which *completely* ruins the look of the pen. What a disaster. :bonk:

Please also let us know how is the balance of the pen with the new metal section around the nib.

I don't think I have used one with metal section.

thanks,

Andy

MONTBLANC

MEISTERSTÜCK PORCELAIN WHITE

Ident. No. 106071

Writing SystemFeaturesRefills

Barrel: Hand-crafted white Meissen porcelain

Cap: Hand-crafted white Meissen porcelain with blue Meissen logo; platinum-plated cap top with mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem

Trim: Three platinum-plated rings embossed with the Montblanc brand name

Clip: Platinum-plated clip with individual serial number

It's a pity you couldn't tell before you ordered the pen whether it can take a converter or not. I'm sure if you pre-paid for the pen delivery would be much more hasty  .

I think the Meissen porcelain model is different to this one.

Yes, Kushbaby mentioned that she almost bought the Porcelain pen, but the star wasn't nice. The Porcelain pen should have a MoP star according to MB's website. The Tribute to the Mont Blanc has a 'snowy white quartz' star.

As far as I am aware, these are the only two white Meisterstücks available today.

See this post toward the beginning of this thread - the website is wrong about the MOP star on the porcelain pen. A real shame, too... :bonk:

Follow-up: I was back in the boutique again today and reopened the subject of the white Meisterstuck, to be sure I got it right. The salesman said that first of all a convertor does not work because the white pen does not have the threads as does the 145. (He also confirmed it is the same size as the 145.) I then asked him if the former MB cartridges without a thread might work in the pen and he said no, because the connecting places are not compatible. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about the various pens. That is really all I can report.

Seems more like a novelty item than a serious pen.

This company makes such good piston fillers, why not apply that expertise across the range?

I know, I know, easier said than done, but when a new model is being launched, it could be taken into consideration?

Not keen on the white, personally, but each to their own etc. However, I think the white and gold is an unfortunate clash of colours.

Edited to be kinder to white pens.

Correct. I saw them both in the MB boutique, two different pens. Unfortunately I did not notice what material the stars are made of.

My apologies, although being my stubborn self I shall pass the blame to MB. :roflmho:

While I am a big fan of MB, their product lineup is so fragmented.

They should have more consistency in what pens have certain features: they should say that all pens in a certain size have a particular filling system to dampen doubts. They should also say that pens which cost more than x amount will have a MoP star, or certain other things.

I suppose fragmentation is expected in special editions, but their design team seems to pick a functional quality or physical material out of a hat when they design pens.

They've just created the following site for the pen.

http://www.tribute-to-the-mont-blanc.com/#

Not much detail though.

I see MB have updated their website with this pen. Along with some of the worst photoshopping I've ever seen, giving the nib a nice black shadow.

In fact it must be special - it's got its own website!

Details seem a little vague on the sizing of the pen (although it has already been established here - just weird MB felt that they didn't need to clarify).

I didn't look far enough back in the thread.

I'm surprised they have male jewellery for the pen. I think this is going to be a common thing for MB moving forward - matching accessories to boost sales.

UPDATE:

I just now received a call from the Montblanc Boutique. They just received a memo about the fountain pen, and, indeed, as was originally (and correctly) reported by the Montblanc shops in Prague, it does *not* come with a converter and will not accommodate one (per the woman I spoke with). She was very apologetic. She said that the reason given was that they were afraid the ink would stain/otherwise damage the etching of the mountains on the section when the pen was dunked to fill, and that was the *only* reason.

*sigh*

I cancelled my order. I own cartridge pens, I have nothing *against* cartridge pens, per se, but I don't want to be limited like that, or have to do the whole syringe thing. It's really pretty, but I don't want it that much...

Another pen company that is rapidly turning away from products that would interest me.

Love their nibs, hate the current design team :gaah:

Maybe it's just another example of poorly informed MB boutique personnel. I might need to make a foray to my local MB boutique this weekend. (I can also simultaneously express my frustration at the small sizes....)

::::and hope blossoms again::::

I've been to your local boutique. Nice people. I seem to be on their phone call list now and every now and then they give me a call. Of my 5 MB pens, I bought 4 of them in San Antonio. I don't understand why "rose gold" would be any more popular with women (then again, I don't think much of the whole "pink for girls and blue for boys"). I can't stand the color myself.

I would rather have seen them adapt the section materials to be able to tolerate ink than to sacrifice the filling method possibilities. It should be able to tolerate ink; it is a pen, after all.

My thoughts *exactly*. I mean, *really*. I suppose in a pinch you could try to clean the etching after filling (alcohol, perhaps, since it's metal?) - that's what I do with my silver Rotring 600 (ink gets all over that knurled grip). I was pretty sure she stated that not only did it not come with a convertor, but you couldn't use one (otherwise, I might be willing to take a chance on the section myself).

I'm trying to be positive about this - this was money I probably shouldn't have been spending, as I have a couple Pelikan desksets coming in soon  . Frustrating, but ultimately better on my wallet (or so I keep repeating to myself).

(I don't have any illusions that my decision to cancel my order based on the lack of a convertor option will have *any* weight with Montblanc, feedback-wise. Apparently they're doing very, very well already with the ballpoints...)

If they want THIS woman to buy one, they'd better bring it out in a 149. I am so tired of dinky, itsy, bitsy, "cute" being called feminine. :gaah:

Gotta concur with Yacht, the platinum goes with the "cooler" color.

Y'all hear about a 149, let me know and it'll go on my want list in an 0BB. 'Til then, I'll leave 'em for the dainty types.

A bit OT but I find your first line to be very interesting. Language like this has subjugated women for centuries. Consider the damage done by the use of the term "nuturing".
