New White Meisterstuck Mont Blanc

Can't you just refill the empty ink cartridges?

Sure you can. Then your pen requires two crutches to function instead of just one.

(Edited to remove superfluous letters typed by cat walking across keyboard. biggrin.gif)

That's ridiculous! Surely it can use the MB converter?

MB completely screwed up on this one. No 146, cartridge only, and that horrible rose gold on the Mozart which completely clashes with the white.

I was considering, that with the lack of a 146, I would save for the Mozart, the excuse being it could be a small pocket pen. But since it is not available in platinum, I have no interest.

MB! Listen, and make a 146 version if you want any hope of selling any!

That was my reaction exactly; didn't quite believe it. The saleslady opened the pen and it even looked like the convertor would fit right in there. But then she called over a colleague to double-check and he said nope, cartridge only.

Are you sure he didn't just mean it wasn't a piston fill?

would I be cynical to suggest they are following nimbly in the footsteps of Apple.

Just got my new iphone- in white..

This pen, however, does nothing for me but I thank Ray warmly for posting this.

Maybe it's just another example of poorly informed MB boutique personnel. I might need to make a foray to my local MB boutique this weekend. (I can also simultaneously express my frustration at the small sizes....)

Follow-up: I was back in the boutique again today and reopened the subject of the white Meisterstuck, to be sure I got it right. The salesman said that first of all a convertor does not work because the white pen does not have the threads as does the 145. (He also confirmed it is the same size as the 145.) I then asked him if the former MB cartridges without a thread might work in the pen and he said no, because the connecting places are not compatible. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about the various pens. That is really all I can report.

Too bad no 146, I would love to get one.

Maybe because MB just released the "Master" series that have the white 146 and don't want to have a cheaper version.

However, I do fancy the BP.

I really dig the design, feminine as it may be, and I am itching to try a smaller pen as I already own a 146. In the event that I don't like it, I shall give it to my girlfriend as an anniversary present...

I think this is the most plausible suggestion. The Masters are just so cool! But they're also £1600. :headsmack:

And I can imagine the scenario now if I saved up for it, bought it, and then I explain the pen to a non-pen person (we really need a name for that, like a Muggle in Harry Potter :roflmho: )

Me: "This is my new pen"

Friend "Great, how expensive was this one?"

Me: "£1600"

Friend "That's crazy. What's so special about it?"

Me: "It's made of Porcelain!"

Friend: "It's made of toilet?"

Me:

Same here, white designs really appeal to me. I think it is very contemporary, and most expensive things I buy I choose the white option, such as the iPad. People say it is very womanly but I don't really care.

hahaha Brookzy, when you put it that way the master series does seem over price.

But it is not as bad if the friend began to explain how his/her free BP from an bank is better than your FP because it is free and it writes. And how his BP does not need to suck inks and he has a million of them because he just went to a career fair.

not my cup of tea, sorry

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Well, since they got rid of the girly line called Boheme, this is the answer for all the women out there wishing to buy a fountain pen with cartridges only!!

Agree with you. Another MB design to avoid.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Edit: He actually said 'sustainable value' rather than 'hold their value'. Still Googling for the interview when he said this.

I doubt his assertion that they rarely discontinue products. They have discontinued a number over the years, and ironically, one could argue that some of the discontinued products are in fact more valuable because they have been discontinued.

 I have never looked at it that way.

Now I need to do some investigation on the Boheme issue.

I agree with those that see the platinum-plating as a more elegant alternative. I also wonder if the white is supposed to tempt the ladies. The size may. Overall, a nice looking pen.

OK, so I just got back from visiting the MB Boutique in San Antonio. First of all, from looking at the Chopin-sized ballpoint (silver/white), this pen is gorgeous to me. The star/snowflake is *amazing*. And the only one they had was on hold for someone - apparently they have flown out the door. I discussed the whole cartridge/converter thing with the folks there, explaining that that was a go/no-go issue for me (if it were cartridge only, no deal). They called about it (presumably to their regional or national info line), and they assured me that it is a Chopin and that it comes with a converter and will work with either converter or cartridge.

So..... I ordered one with F nib. When it arrives, I intend to fit and fill it with the converter right in the store - if the converter doesn't fit or they were misinformed about it accepting one, I'm not buying it.

I'll post an update whenever it arrives (no idea when that will be)...

BTW - the porcelain pen is really pretty... except for the plain white star, which *completely* ruins the look of the pen. What a disaster. :bonk:

Do inform us as soon as you receive it! :)

And that plain White star you mention, it should be Mother of Pearl from what I understand. :hmm1:
