Even though there are already too many reviews of Lamy Blue to count, I thought I would review it as well.

 

Disclaimer: My scanner blows -- scans are unedited apart from cropping, resizing, and rotating.

My favourite blue but looks nothing like this scan. You sure there wasn't water/dampness in the pen before inserting the cartridge. If not I can't explain the difference between this scan and my Lamy CP1 with Lamy Blue.

It's most likely my craptastic scanner. I'll re-do all of my pics/scans when I get a DSLR soon.

 

The Sheaffer Skrip Red I used for the legends looks nothing like my scan in real life either (in the scan it looks an almost weird pinkish, whereas on the page it's a bright true red). But yes, the Lamy Blue does look more vibrant and bright on the page compared to my scan.

Mine looks pretty spot on from here. I am comparing it to my journal. I have to say I don't like it much. I prefer Lamy Blue Black.

This is my favorite every-day blue. I use it in a Lamy Safari F with great satisfaction. It has absolutely no water resistance, but that can be a plus in certain circumstances. I like it much, much better than Sheaffer Skrip Blue, which is a decent blue.

This was my very first ink I put in my Lamy ABC while I was in elementary school. We weren't allowed to use anything but blue ink, and for a long time I've avoided those, especially Lamy. Just the epitome of kiddy school ink.

I thought I'd give it another try and bought a bottle a couple of weeks ago, and I was really pleasantly surprised. This is a nice ink with good flow properties, and I can actually appreciate the color.

I have a cartridge of Lamy Blue that came with my AlStar.

 

Although it's a very pleasant medium to dark blue, I find little about it that stands out over and above other blue inks.

 

So I would agree with the comment on the first line of the description, it's relatively vivid but somehow tame at the same time.

Thanks for the review. While I (too) am not all that enthused about this ink due to its somewht washed out and/or chalky look, I can say that there are "worse" blues.

But... again as pointed out above... Lamy's blue-black (in the bottle) is truly one great blue-black, comparable only (but not exclusively) to MB's. Both of these have their own advantages, IMO.

This is what I don't get, my Lamy Blue cart is Chris B. version. I've never seen Mikes version - 'cept on the scan above which I believe is the scanner playing tricks.

Update!

 

Took some pictures of the title and review pages today which I think better reflect the actual color of this ink. Although, they might be a little dark... I would add them to the OP, but I can't edit my previous posts anymore. Is there only a certain window of time after you've posted that you can make edits?

Just downloaded your "dark" scan and did a color tone balancing. It now looks like this, and the blue is quite handsome :-

Very nice review, you covered just about all of the points that anyone would want to know about Lamy Blue Ink. My problem is that the hue seems to be so ordinary, there just isn't anything that jumps out and says "buy a big bottle of Lamy Blue or you will hate yourself forever!!!". Maybe the fault is mine, being an extremist regarding ink. Not bad but I like a bit of individuality in a blue. The last scan is the most attractive, making it look a bit like Delft blue, though.
