Oh no! It's the only BB I like! Maybe I should buy another bottle to hoard just in case it doesn't reappear in a new incarnation/bottle.

Try the Fountain Pen Hospital. It was the only place I could find that still had it in stock. They only 1 oz. bottles though.

I just placed an order for a couple of bottles with FountainPenHeaven. I can't believe that Pelikan is discontinuing one of my favorite inks! It didn't occur to me to check fountainpenhospital. Well they both seem to still have it in stock.

Is Pelikan trying to act like MB by stopping production of their best inks?

Thanks Thornton. I'll have a look here (Singapore) first - today in fact as I am going into Orchard Road - and see if I can find some. If not I will order from the USA or UK. Thanks again.

Noodler's Van Gogh Starry Nights, diluted 50:50 with water, is a pretty close match to Pel BB. At least to my poor untrained eye.

This is not an option for my vintage Pelikan and MB pens.

R&K Salix does work ok - but only with the real gushers. What do I do with the average wet vintage Pel?

And J. Herbin blue nuit is way to free flowing even for the average wet pen. No alternative either.

Maybe I have to try Lamy BB once more? But it is not my first choice if it comes to mixes with some standard blue ink .... :hmm1:

Yep, and most likely profit motivated. Not knocking it but it sure leaves me unhappy as a customer. Will make me look elsewhere for my next ink fix.

If Mont Blanc have stopped Blue Black and now Pelikan, it does reinforce the idea that they are the same ink. Ive also had problems geting Lamy Blue Black......Conspiracy Theories........

I guess the reason is that it was not profitable. Pelikan ble-black is a really fantastic ink, but it must be used in the right pen, otherwise all you get is a geenish fased grey. It took me some trial and error to find the right FP to use it in and at first I thought there was something wrong with my cartridges. This high specificity made the ink not suitable for everybody. Anyway I will get some while supplies last.

Another possible reason is that the new EU regulation on chemicals created some issues, and therefore the ink had to be discontinued.

I have bottles of the older, now discontinued MB Blue/Black and the current being discontinued Pelikan Blue/Black. These two inks are very different from each other.

MB has replaced the Blue/Black with the Midnight blue. The new ink remains ferrogallic. The new Mb inks are Austrian, the older line was German made.

I've just checked this with the UK distributor. They've confirmed with Pelikan that Blue-Black is not discontinued outside the US. We'll still be able to get plenty of it in the UK, and the rest of Europe.

That's reassuring news for us then. I shan't stockpile just yet!

Even though it's still available outside US, why would you discontinue a product at all? (Well assuming it sells well over there)

The most common reasons are:

- Poor sales

- Not profitable (production cost vs. sales price)

- Change in regulatory framework

Poor sales/unprofitable - would it not usually just result in a price increase?

Regulations changes - can't really argue with it.

Well I do hope they are going to repackage it. I quite liked the ink

Hi,

Pelikan Blue-Black includes an ingredient not listed in the US TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act). That inventory list includes all allowed ingredients. (Must be a rather long list.) However, exclusion does not mean that PBlBk is toxic.

I am not any sort of authority on US law, but it would seem that import by individuals would not be wise; and I would not be surprised if non-US based vendors/retailers/suppliers would decline to ship PBlBk to the US.

As I mentioned, When you're out of PBlBk, you're out of ink.
