Mb Montreal: My Experience

Hello, just wanted to tell you guys that i had a pleaseant experience at the new MB Montreal that just opened in Carrefour Laval.

They didn't have much on display and it's a small boutique but the staff is friendly.

When i asked the clerk to test the OBB nib, she had no clue what i was talking about. She had asked her manager afterwards and he took the time to sit down with us to let us try different nibs.

He also showed me some new pens that MB is coming out with. I asked him to see the Mark Twain FP but he didn't have it in stock. :(

Then, i asked him if he had the Toffee Brown ink. He said yes and went to get it. But he came back with the Oyster Grey ink bottle instead. :(

He said if i tried the Oyster Grey and i said no, so he decided to give it to me for free to try it out. What a nice gesture of him.

Overall, i liked my experience there. If they keep offer a good service every time like that, i can see this store doing well in the future.

P.S: Mark Twain is such a beautiful pen, well i only tried out the rollerball but my mind is set on the FP.

Cool! Thanks for sharing that with us...I'll definitely check it out the next time I'm in Laval. (Maybe next weekend!)

When in Montreal, I always stop by "Mosel" on Jean Talon for Montblanc. I have dealt with Howard, the owner, for years. Service beats the corporate store by a country mile as Howard is a pen person rather than a sales person. Independent MB pen stores may be a thing of the past as MB is placing more and more emphasis on jewellery and watches - dealers have to maintain a minimum inventory of these items and will need fairly deep pockets if they wish to have a wide selection of jewellery, watches AND pens. I always try to support locally owned independent pen retailers. Nothing beats seeing different pens side by side and trying them out one after another.

BTW: No relation to Howard Mosel except for being a satisfied customer.

Yup, the store in Carrefour Laval are not every helpful. I go to the one downtown to buy stuff. Personally, my favorite store for pen is Bijouterie Turcot in Montreal. He has tons of pens, everything from Montegrappa, Montblanc, S.T Dupont, Dunhill, etc. Excellent service.

He is the only authorized repair centre for S.T. Dupont in Canada.

I agree - Stylo's downtown location is the first place I'll spend what little money I have on ink & other pen accessories. The people there are pretty good (tho' some are better than others) and the prices are not too out of line with other stores.

Haven't been to Bijouterie Turcot or Mosel - have to go there when I start earning more money. :ltcapd:
