Best Black For Addressing Envelopes?

RookSeven

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, which black ink would be best for addressing envelopes? I guess meaning a good permanent waterproof ink that's pretty tough. :)

Thanks :notworthy1:

For me it's Noodler's Black. It's indistructable! It may not be the blackest but that another issue.

If on the other hand you wanted to use a different colour, perhaps the same one that you used for writing the letter, you could coat the address on the env. with the wax from a white candle by just rubbing the butt of the candle over the address. I did that recently when writing to my grandson. It was during a rainy spell. He said it got there in fine shape but he wondered what that coating was on the addy. Oh, don't even think about lighting the candle! :roflmho:

Hi !

While reading, I took out my Vacumatic that is full of Chesterfield Archival Vault.

It is not expensive. It goes on as a blue/black and dries nearly black. After 90 seconds, I put the piece of copy paper face down into a saucer of cold water for five seconds. I took it out, waited ten seconds, and blotted with a paper towel. It didn't run or bleed. Then, I rubbed it with a damp paper towel. I rubbed a hole into the paper, but the ink did not bleed. Can't wait for the Clairefontaine paper to arrive to try this on it.

This was fun.

Thank you, fellow FPN'ers ! I am going to keep a pen inked with this for envelopes.

I use Noodler's Manhattan Blackest Black. It's permanent and a Fountain Pen Hospital exclusive which they sell an non-permanent ink prices.

I like Diamine Registrar's Ink (one of the iron gall inks). Namiki Black would probably also work well since it is water-resistant, but I haven't tried it on envelopes.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. -- ViolinWriter

I would pick Noodler's Black too. I use it for checks, envelopes, and other documents where I need a really permanent ink.

My choices would be Diamine Registrar's ink and Sailor kiwaguro. Both are waterproof, both have nice charasteristics and I enjoy writing with them. Sailor is a nice smooth ink that makes my pens glide on paper, where Diamine is dryer and at it's best when used on wet pen (but it's perfect in thin dry pen as well to write really really small writing).

Any of the Noodler's permanent/bulletproof dark colors, or Platinum/Sailor nano-pigment blacks, or any other color and rub candlewax or that protective cream....I forget the name....that makes it waterproof.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

You are lovely and helpful. This must be a dream. Fortunately I am already very happily married.

Now back to this MicroGlaze....when you smear it over an ink, are there some inks that it ends up smearing when you apply it? I'll have to get some and try it.

You, my dear, are much too nice.

I've only tried the MicroGlaze with just a few inks, a few Iroshizuku and Waterman South Sea Blue, and they haven't smeared. Usually what I'll do is I'll address the envelope first and set it aside to dry while I prepare the contents of the envelope. Then, when I'm ready to stuff the envelope, I'll apply the MicroGlaze and I haven't had any trouble with smearing that way.

This stuff is seriously awesome, and you only need a tiny tiny bit of it. Right now, it is on sale at Scrapbook Pal (here) for $6.49 instead of the usual $8.50, if anyone is deciding to take the plunge into MicroGlaze bliss. :D It doesn't stink, either. It has a strange, but pleasant off-citrusy sort of odor.

OK, finally ordered some to try. Thanks for reminder about it.

As already stated, any of the Noodler's Bulletproof blacks, OMB, HOD. Platinum and Sailor both make fountain pen safe, permanent inks, that should also be acceptable.

Diamine Registrar's ink is another to try but it is not a black, more of a blue as I think.

+1 Sailor Kiwa-Guro Pigmented Nano Black

I love this ink for addressing envelopes, it is super well behaved in my Sailor nibs and a very dark, easily readable shade ;)

Ha! As soon as I saw "Micro-glaze" I wondered exactly the same thing.

My letters are usually addressed with Noodler's Bulletproof Black because here in Michigan they frequently encounter rain and wet hands.
