Not to mention the one where I lugged my Gerstner pen case up to the second floor....

Doh, I hate going to the east bay, but I will have to Bart over on Friday (there's no way I'll be able to drag SO over to the east bay for a pen show; poor guy was miserable waiting in Bittner last weekend) as I've never been to a pen show before. Saturday is my birthday so hopefully my birthday gift will be to have walked out of the pen show with a slightly finer-writing L2k!

DUBLIN?! I've never had any reason to go to Dublin... this will be one long journey!

Your lucky pen day is next weekend. Two events in the works. The Pan Pacific Pen Club has a meeting on the 17th and there is a Pen Posse Peter's Cafe on the 18th. Details are in this forum.

Think of it as practice for the SF Pen Show. If that isn't enough for the SO how about calling it 'required reading' for your birthday present. Likely be one or two F nibs at each.

You have got to be kidding. I live in Dublin and I take a short drives to Carmel, Sacramento or Milpitas for pen events.

My sense of long drives and short drives has drastically changed ever since I moved up from socal to the bay area. I used to think 2 hours was nothing--now, not so much. A trip to Carmel, Tiburon/Sausalito, or wine country is a huge day trip. The drive to sacramento was brutal (dog event). I think if I told my SO I was going to meet a bunch of random strangers to look at their pen, I'd find FPN blocked on the computer  He shares most of my interests, but not pens. He already thinks I'm crazy for wanting my nib messed around with--and he definitely doesn't see the point in owning more than one, cheap, fountain pen.

Did he realize that just outside of Bittner's was Carmel?

Also, you have BART. Dublin is far for everybody except the people who are close. Everything is far from the North Bay, or maybe the North Bay is far from everything. And before Dublin, the closest pen show was LA, unless Portland is closer.

P.S.: Sausalito is the close part. It's Novato that's far and mostly not worthwhile. San Rafael isn't worthwhile either, but it's closer.

He is right you know. You are visiting FPN and your idea of a vacation is to go to a pen show. Welcome. We have a support group for you. Take BART to the Millbrae station on Sunday Sept 18th. The support group meets at Peter's Cafe just across the parking lot from the BART station on El Camino. While there are many regressions, a group of us once stuck a perfectly good MB writing instrument in a chickens beak after consuming a large meal. If that isn't progress I don't know what is. Come to think of it, taking a perfectly good pen and grinding the tip away is also a form a therapy--you are learning to live with less pen.

So we will see you at the support group meeting next week right?

Mango's husband sounds like my ex.

Draw your own conclusions.

Hee.

Todd -- I love this: "Come to think of it, taking a perfectly good pen and grinding the tip away is also a form a therapy--you are learning to live with less pen." Ha ha ha! That is so true.

Grind enough of the tip away and you practically will live without the pen, cos it'll stay out of rotation....

This hasn't happened to me. Yet. *Crosses fingers*

Unfortunately, we did not realize that carmel was outside bittner. We aimed for gayles, overshot, and landed at bittner.

He was just waiting so we could go over to SLT to buy a Dutch oven and knife.

Crossing a bridge is cumbersome for us, unless it's for food or the dog's cardiologist. Despite my complaints, I will find myself at the pen show. Not so much the meet, though--I dont have anything cool to show, nor money to buy.

Pen Posse is for you. No money required and it is happening at a cafe so food is involved.

See you next week. Bring a pen, we will supply the ink. See the Pen Posse Rides Again for details.

Oy! That's my home town you're trashing. In the sixties, it was a fine town. SR has never stopped trying to reinvent itself since the seventies; and it has had its moments. Alas, I must concur that the current permutation is a nasty mess (with the possible exception of the ever-expanding Dominican campus). Still, there are some charming older houses on the hills overlooking the bay, and lovely tree-lined streets.

I just bought my table in the lobby of the San Francisco Pen Show...so if you need a new journal, stop by. Also, we now have a place for the SF Pen Posse to gather. Let the party begin.

San Rafael's worth it just for Dharma Trading.

As someone born and raised in San Jose, I have no love for anything but the middle and southern peninsula.

The East Bay is something you drive through to get to Tahoe (joking, mostly.)

SF is somewhere you avoid like the plague (not joking, at all. Hate that city.)

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

So are there any specific times for getting together during the show? Isn't Friday evening sometime, somewhere, a "posse"? or what?
