My FPN Ink Is Here!

Mine arrived on the 9th also. I had a heck of a time trying to empty out the pen I had in mind (a Sensa Meridian), and was sure to flush flush flush until the water was clear (what a pain in the @$$!)... but the ink is not very brown, it's more red/rust. (I was sure to dry the pen well, but I usually wait overnight and did not in this case... Have not sent a fresh chaser of ink yet)... If this is indeed the color of the ink, then it's fabulous and to my liking (my original vote pre-Galileo idea was for a rusty brown ink)...

but it's not so saturated. I think it would be well-suited to be tinted with something (and, Sonia, Walnut's probably a good idea because it is such a saturated color!!)... but I feel like such a louse, tinting such an expensive and specially-formulated ink!!

It's great to hear from people who have received their ink already. Since my order was the 87th, reading everyone's reactions makes the wait more bearable!

The color was rustier than I had anticipated.

I had the same reaction. (I may try toning it down with some Black; ran out of Walnut.) Also agree it performs beautifully. Flows well and dries very quickly; in these respects, it reminds me of the Swishmix formula. No feathering on Ampad paper; barely visible feathering on the not-very-FP-friendly Moleskine -- quite acceptable. And none of the "chalkiness" that some people complain about in other Noodler's waterproof inks. The color is quite vibrant for a bulletproof ink. And that label -- smashing! Well done, us!

The mix with Walnut does feather quite a bit (which is odd, as I havne't noticed a lot of feathering with Walnut alone). The color is fabulous, though. I'm thinking of trying a mix with black as well.

Here are a few scans. The first color is the mix with Noodler's Walnut (about two parts FPN to one part Walnut, measured strictly by eye) first and the second is straight FPN.

Edited to make the image slightly less gigantic.

It's my Phileas and I would say it has medium flow--not super wet, but definitely not dry.

I put it in my Mustard Yellow VP, and it is definatly a red/rust color. I'm actually glad it is not too brown. Very pleased with it

We were trying for that reddish rusty brown. In the first samples that Nathan provided, the feedback from members was to make it rustier.

That is odd.

I bet! :) Whoops, I hadn't seen your scan when I posted. Yup, fabulous! :D

I'm thinking of trying a mix with black as well.

Maybe that'll help with the feathering. Black is the most featherproof of all, IME. :bunny1:

So much fun having a great big bottle of it to play with. :D

Now if only Kevin's raw ebonites will come in, I can fool with it with a tasty flexible EF nib.

Oooh, I like that rusty colour....

Thanks for the sample, Bob!

sonia_simone, I appreciate you posting your samples; your Noodler's Walnut/FPN ink combination reminds me of my Waterman Havana Brown, so it's good to know that the FPN ink is similar to one of my fave inks...but not the same. Can't wait to try it for myself!

Bryan, as always, thank you for your hard work in all this! :D

I got my bottle in this morning. Bob, your color scan is right on. I'm going to wait a few weeks before deciding how I feel about it. The flow properties are great. My pen writes so smoothly with this ink.
