Esterbrook Icicle Sj Inquiry

Recommended Posts

Been collecting Icicle's recently. Just need a Red to complete the set.

I just got a Copper SJ. This is only the 2nd one I've seen.

A co-worker has a blue one. I was wondering how common is the

SJ version of the Icicles?

Anyone have all 5 colors in the SJ Icicles?

I've never seen an icicle (LJ or SJ) pencil, as far as I can recall.

My experience, though I don't hunt icicles like some here, is finding one SJ icicle for every, say, 10-15 LJs.

Regards, greg

Yes you have. You have a blue one. I watched you buy it.

Pencils turn up. There was one on eBay a week or so ago. I did not see who or where it went.

HUH? Now I have to go look in my pen cabinet. (If true,) how odd that your "keeping track of what pens are in the collection" applies only to others' collections!

Best, greg

You don't see a pronounced Icicle pencil very often and I intended to go back and get it because no one buys Esterbrooks...

  • 6 months later...

Today I received an SJ brown icicle I found on the bay, and I was just going to post an inquiry to ask if anyone else had ever seen an icicle in the demi size, when I saw your inquiry. Mine has no barrel imprint, but I guess it must have been made in Mexico, like the other icicles? There is usual "Esterbrook" engraving on the cap clip. Got this one for $42.00 plus postage, and although I should take it apart to check on the health of the sac, it does hold water.

Anyone like Chesterfield ink, made in the U.K.? Hope it's safe. All my Esties are digesting it.

Thanks for any comments you may offer, since I've been at this only for about six months, since my late father's gray LJ was found among his things, and hooked me.

I'm pretty sure the guy who named the colors was color blind....

I've got a 'red' but I agree with the Rust/Copper description, especially when sitting next to my 'red' J.

Are the barrels on your icicles slightly translucent as well? If I hold mine up to the light I can see the outline of the sac in it.

I keep my eyes peeled for these, but icicles are not that common 'in the wild' (for me anyway)

They tend to be made from lesser materials. Some do indeed have that translucent cast to them.

Any of yours "Hencho en Mexico"? The colors tend to be more vibrant.

I only have one icicle  and it's not marked as to where it was made. I was referring to the colors in the pictures and ones I've seen but not been able to acquire. Lesser materials describes them well, as does 'poor assembly quality'. Many of the ones I have seen had crooked jewels and trim rings. The patterns are interesting. For me it's kind of a study in the 'death of a company' :crybaby:
