Noodler's Bernanke Blue

Sandy1

Recommended Posts

I keep the Bernanke Black in a pen always,to use for checks and correspondence at the office, where the superior dry-time is much appreciated. Great stuff.

I've been meaning to buy a bottle of the B Blue as well. I sampled it, and the color seemed indistinguishable from Noodler's Liberty's Elysium, at least from the sample I received from Goulet.

Learning from the past does not mean living in the past.

I bought the ink just because of the name.

God created man, Sam Colt made them equal!

Since the subject has been brought up, what has been the fate of the other Swisher inks. Namely,

Burgundy
Nile Ebony
True Rouge
Lakeshore Spruce
Glacier Blue
Tahitian Pearl (blue-black)
Seminole Sepia

Noodler's 100% Waterproof, exclusively for the Swisher Pens store:
Aquamarine Blue
Devil Red
Goldfinch
Grizzly
Gulf Stream Blue
Hellbender Red (magenta)
Naval Orange (intentional wordplay)
Verdun Green

Are they available, albeit relabeled, or have they gone to join their brothers Racing Green, Alfred Hitchcock and untold others in ink heaven never to be seen again

A link (which I have not found) would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

As this Topic became current, I take the opportunity to restore the images that were depicted as thumbnails in the original Review, but lost their way after a recent upgrade/rebuild of FPN.

Without further ado:

Hi-Res Scans:

I hope that the addition of these images does not earn me the sobriquet 'Queen of The Bandwidth Bandits'.

Thanks @Sandy1 for a great review (as always) and for the updated pictures. I will give this ink a miss, but then I am right-handed :)

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

Oh wow... I have had this ink for two years and have planned to sell it, but last night... I don't know why (cos I wanted to try a vibrant blue, and, on whim, I dipped a toothpick in the ink and smeared it on a page, and thought -- let's just put some of this in the Nakaya Piccolo (M) and see what happens.

So far, so good!

I'm using it at work, and the bright blue brings a big of cheerfulness, like a deep blue sky, around 2:00 pm.

It neither feathers nor bleeds-through the paper I'm using (mostly cheap copier stock).

Once again, I've learned that if I hold onto an ink long enough, I might eventually come around to using it with pleasure.

Hi,

Ah yes, the inks that are often passed over . . . they can still have attractive properties, and given the chance, can be a pleasant surprise.

More than a few times I've taken a lower shelf ink for a whirl, only to come away with the thought 'Where has this one been hiding?' Rather like finding a fiver in a pocket of a seldom worn garment. :)

Enjoy!

Bye,

S1

Hi,

Thanks for letting us know your applications that demand a fast drying ink.

I've found the Blue has just enough snap to allow annotation & mark-up of material printed in Black ink, and is especially useful for working on hard-bound documents that are printed on both sides of the sheet, though I did need a dry nib to dodge the bleed-through pothole on that paper.

For personal writing, I like the line quality that can be achieved on the hard super-calendered* papers: achieving a fully inked line from an ink of middling value without having the base-tint of the paper show-through (shifting the hue) is an uncommon attribute, largely due to the combination of dye-load and ease of penetrating such paper.

Bye,

S1

Hi,

You're welcome!

As mentioned, I too really don't have the need for a fast dry ink, and would be inclined to use blotter sheets if I did need short dry times, though their use slows writing. I am glad to have this ink, in a 'Basic Blue' hue, so that when I can take advantage of its properties, it is to hand. But yes, it is a niche use ink, and for some it would be an answer looking for a question.

(A 1 oz bottle might find its way into the ink array of more people.)

Me, too! And I went with blue, cos I knew nothing would supplant Noodler's Black in my use.

Sandy1 - I haven't read too many ink reviews lately, and having revived this thread, I realize again how brilliant - comprehensive and even entertaining - your reviews are.

So far, I'm liking this Bernanke Blue.

Cheers!

Hi,

Many thanks for your kind words! I am very flattered that you hold my efforts in such high regard. :)

As NBerBl has a performance profile that is seldom seen I thought it deserved a bit of OCD+ attention. Not doubt it delivers the goods so far as very fast dry times on 'high end' coated papers such as Rhodia & Clairefontaine Triomphe, yet it is not a one trick pony: the high absorption characteristic allows the wily practitioner to exploit the ink for 'off label' purposes as well.

(I may have been hasty to suggest that 1 oz could be more appropriate packaging. ;) )

Bye,

S1
