Hello from Northern Alberta

Sard

Recommended Posts

I bought a very cheep, no name, fountain pen just because in university just because and fell in love with the way the ink flowed onto the paper.

Since then I’ve picked up an all metal Parker 45, Sheaffer Triumph Imperial, a leaver fill Sheaffer School Pen, and a REX pen (I don’t know much about it, but it might be a Woolworth brand).

Currently I’m looking at either picking up a Pelikan M200 or M215, but had some concerns about nib materials and found this site after doing an internet search. It was a great resource so I joined.

Welcome to FPN...

M215 because of the design has a plain steel nib... The M200 with its gold trim has a plated nib. Essentially they are the same nib apart from appearance (in fact my M215 has a reground, polished M200 nib)

A number of the board members are nib and fp repair experts. In regard nib materials look at this members webpage Richard Binder

Hang around, enjoy the forum and let us known how you get on...

Welcome to FPN. You're in good company here with many who are willing to help by answering the questions you may have concerning fountain pens. You've a good start on a group of good writers. Enjoy your association with us, but beware fountain pens can be addicting. We will only enable and encourage you to acquire more and more.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion to visit Richard Binder's website. It was very informative.

Hopefully fountain pens are not too addictive.

Hello Kris, and welcome to the nuthouse. it's great to seen another Albertan on the board.

Mac (in Calgary).

Sometimes a technology reaches perfection and further development is just tinkering. The fountain pen is a good example of this.

Hi and Welcome Kris,

My Daughter & Son-in-Law (Ciara and Declan) spent their honeymoon in Canada, and fell in love with the place :)

We are constantly being nagged - "you really must visit there".

Enjoy FPN - you'll find it a friendly, civilised spot :D

Welcome to the FPN. Hope you enjoy it here. Looking forward to your posts.

I also have (and treasure) my Parker 45 Flighter (all metal) - which was a graduation present from my Grandmother some 40 years ago.

Regards,

Gerry

Hello all,

And thank you for the warm (only slightly scary with talk of pen additions :-) welcome. It’s nice to see so many Canadians and even a few Albertans. It’s even nicer to find a group of people who appreciate good pens and fine inks.

To answer a few questions since I haven’t figured out how to reply to individual postings yet… yes and no. I’m working full time and going to university full time. Pens are the only way of life I really have time for right now since writing is very much a part of my day to day activities.

I’m glad you enjoy your Parker 45 Gary, I love mine.

Thanks for the tip on REX pens Maja.

And yes, it is a beautiful country - especially now that we have some snow (at least where I am).

I’ve already bough a Pelikan M200 since joining this sight and am looking forward to trying it out.

Sard,

Welcome from Manitoba. I hope there are more pen lovers in your area than mine. I tried this welcome earlier but I'm somewhat cybernetically challenged. Anyway, welcome.

Well, you can hope . . . . Welcome to FPN. I am not a fellow Canadian, but I proposed to my wife in Alberta (Lake Louise) and we got married there as well. If there is a more beautiful spot on the planet, I have never seen it.

I plan to live forever. So far, so good.

Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada

Named after the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria....

"Gourmet Magazine" voted the hotel by the lake "Best View in the World"

It is very beautiful and even more so in person :)

We've been there several times, and yes, the glacier water really *is* that lovely blue-green colour. Up close it looks almost "fizzy" (like a carbonated drink).

Sorry to steer the conversation away from Kris' intro...

HI Sard!

I live near Ottawa and this is my first active post in here. I plan to visit more often although I have known about this site for some time now. One of the moderators is in my pen club and he convinced me to check in here more often. How far North of Edmonton are you?

Let's talk about each other's collection. Email me please.

Hi Bernie,

I'm far enough north that it takes a long time to get there. Lake Louise is a nice spot (But I'm even further from there then from Edmonton :-). One day I would like to find an ink that is the same colour as the water.
