  1. 1. How many trades do you think it will take me to get to the Pelikan M1000?

Recommended Posts

DO IT. The M200 is nothing special in my opinion. I had the same blue marbled pen you now have and only paid 45 for it about a year ago. Was unimpressed. I now have a 140 in green, not as nice as yours, and it's a keeper. Great pen. GREAT nib. Make the trade. It's a great offer!

I am definitely going to make this trade. My gut feeling was that it was a great trade. But, I just wanted to get some feedback from the group first since there are many more people here with much more knowledge than I have :) It sounds like this will be an exciting pen!

Hope it works out.

I have several of these vintage Pelikans, among one '140' in all black with chrome trimming. I do not own an M200 so I cannot compare, but the 140 has a spectacular nib indeed.

Sounds like a great deal and an effective step to your final goal.

Still following this fascinating thread!, so keep us informed.

Good luck!

Thanks Lex,

I think I am getting very close to my goal. I'm thinking maybe 4 more trades and I can make it :). but that is just my guess. It may take longer.

I was thinking the other day that it would be nice to get a factory 3B nib since these are not available on the M800 and below. Only the M1000 has the 3B. :) Has anyone used the 3B? What are your thoughts?

FPN,

Thanks to your help, I reached a trade deal with Jared on 10/30/11 to trade my Pelikan M200 for his Pelikan 140 EF flex. Today, 11/1/11 the M200 was shipped away to him. I'm looking forward to using and reviewing the 140. From what I hear, it is an awesome pen. I'm going to practice some copperplate while I await its arrival.

For those of you interested in a 140, keep your eyes peeled, as I will be reviewing this one in the future and then putting it up for trade. But, if I really like it, I might hang onto it for a couple months.

-Jon :)

UPDATE: On Saturday 11/5/11, I received the Pelikan 140 in the mail! :) Just in time to test it out at an informal pen gathering I setup near my house. It was great :)

UPDATE: Today, 11/16/11, I reached a trade deal with Powerbroker to trade him the Pelikan 140 EF flex for these two pens:

  • Early model Edison Beaumont in warm brown ebonite
  • Blue Conklin Nozac ground to a medium italic

I will be shipping out the 140 as soon as I finish my evaluation and review :) Has anyone used these pens before? What can I expect from them?

check my m1000 reviews , they may help you

I voted 10, assuming that you have that many M100s. Or 2 M500s, 4 M250s?

Excuse me while I mop my chin. :puddle: I'm envious of your Edison Beaumont, and you got a Conklin along with it. The trade is a corker!

UPDATE: On 11/21/11 I received the Edison and Conklin. I haven't had a chance to ink them yet. I won't ink them until I finish with the 140 and ship it off as I have committed to do. BUT, I can say that I really like the clip on the Conklin. It has the fulcrum in the center instead of toward the end of the cap. It makes it VERY easy to clip onto thick cloth like sweater. Every clip should be like this! I love it :)

I've handled the Edison he traded to you and it's very nice. One of Brian's first non kit pens. Or partial kit pens. Not real sure. There are a couple of reviews on here you can look through. Congrats on a great trade. I look forward to seeing the 140 review. I LOVE mine.

I think you made a whale of a dealing, getting the Conklin Nozac and Edison pens for the Pel 140 (which is a great pen, btw)---congrats!

Oh, is the clip on the Nozac the same as the one on the Conklin Endura you traded away?

Speaking as the other side of the most recent trade, let me assure all that I too am happy with the deal. thumbup.gif The Edison and the Conklin just didn't quite fit my hand. The Edison was one of Brian's early pens where I can't use the current nibs (and I have a bunch of Edison modern nibs on hand...) and the Conklin grind wasn't quite to my taste. So, I didn't see them as very high value pen on the "for sale" page so I was just hanging on to them wondering what I might do.

At the same time, I quite like the look of the Pel 140, I love EF and I have just for a year been hankering to have a try with a pen with some flex to play with after I got my hands on one at the local pen club meeting. I wasn't motivated to sell my pens as it was all too much trouble to do that but if I could move out some pens that didn't fit my hand for one I was really looking to try and help Jon on his Pel 1000 quest, that sure seemed like the right time to have it be a win / win for him and me both. He has plenty of trade options open now in two directions and I have a pen on the way that I have wanted instead of two collecting dust in a drawer.

Sometimes things happen for a reason and, as my Mom always told me, it's nice to be nice. rolleyes.gif

Jon, hope you like the pens and that your future trading is profitable. I'll look for the Pel 140 in the mail soon, no rush.

The clips look similar. But the spring loading is different. On the Conklin the fulcrum is on the end. On the Nozac it is in the center of the clip so that you can operate it by hand to open it.

Thanks again! :) I'm going to ship yours out shortly. It is almost out of ink. I was using Diamine Green-Black in it. It is very suited to the pen because it matches the barrel nicely. I think you are really going to like this 140. It is a very wet writer. The only thing I noticed about it, is that the tines seem to be a little scratchy on horizontal strokes. Maybe they are out of alignment? I didn't feel I had the expertise to adjust it, so I left it alone. This problem seems to disappear with reduced pressure.

UPDATE: Today I finished using the Pelikan 140, drained it, flushed it and packaged it up safely to be sent to powerbroker. I'm really going to miss that pen. It was VERY wet. I like that aspect of it alot. BUT, fortunately, I will have other pens to test thanks to powerbroker. :)

Look for a review of the 140 soon! :)
