  1. 1. How many trades do you think it will take me to get to the Pelikan M1000?

Recommended Posts

You could sell your two nibs to fund the O3B nib.

BINGO!

:eureka:

This is a no-brainer---as long as you trust your fellow trader and the black M1000 is in working order with no damage (ditto for its 2 nibs), I'd say "Go for it!" :D

Thanks guys. But let's not say congratulations just yet. I still want a chance to use this conklin and edison. haha. I haven't even inked the Edison yet. :) Also, I might make the trade and then see if anyone is willing to trade a green for a black.

So, just to get a feel for it, is anyone here interested in trading a green for a black M1000?

FPN,

I have some big news that I need your advice on. I have had an offer from a user to trade his black M1000 with OB and M nibs for the Conklin and Edison. But, it is a rather difficult decision since my end goal is a Green M1000 with a 3B nib. So, I was wondering if I could get some advice from the group on this. Should I make the trade and then attempt to use the Black M1000 to get to a green M1000? Or should I hold out for the Green one?

I know the 3B nib is a rare one to get, and recently the cost of this nib went up DRASTICALLY from $210 to $330. So, it might be hard to come by. Also, I think this trade might be a good deal because it comes with 2 nibs. Thoughts? Advice?

-Jon

I'd say go for it. If nothing else it puts you within easy range of your stated goal. And, for that matter, in my opinion, black? green? who cares?

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to wait for just a few more opinions to trickle in, and then I will make my decision :)

Of course you will have to do it!!!!!

But maybe you can make a deal with the one who made the offer to wait with the swap until you used the Conclin and the Edison for a while.

But you should absolutely go for it. This is an offer and a chance you will never get a second time!

Good luck and Happy Christmas days for you all!

Group,

I think what I'm going to do is make the trade, and then put up the black M1000 for a green M1000 so that I can finish the trek as I had originally proposed. But, it might take a while to find someone to trade a green for a black. After all, many of the people I have made trades with have traded because they were bored with the pens they traded me. Since a green and a black M1000 differ only in color, a trade with someone who wants a truly different pen experience will not be possible. But, I am going to try this anyway. :)

Good for you! Not only will you be getting an M1000 in the trade but also an extra nib. Surely you will be able to find someone who will want those items in exchange for a green-striped M1000 with the nib you are seeking :) Best of luck!

By the way, I thought I'd post some photos here of the Conklin and Edison for everyone to see:

UPDATE: I've completed my write ups of both the Conklin and Edison. I'm getting ready to finalize the reviews and upload them. I'm really excited because this will mean I'm ready to make the trade with JLT for the black M1000 :cloud9:

DO IT. The M200 is nothing special in my opinion. I had the same blue marbled pen you now have and only paid 45 for it about a year ago. Was unimpressed. I now have a 140 in green, not as nice as yours, and it's a keeper. Great pen. GREAT nib. Make the trade. It's a great offer!

I am definitely going to make this trade. My gut feeling was that it was a great trade. But, I just wanted to get some feedback from the group first since there are many more people here with much more knowledge than I have :) It sounds like this will be an exciting pen!

Hope it works out.

I have several of these vintage Pelikans, among one '140' in all black with chrome trimming. I do not own an M200 so I cannot compare, but the 140 has a spectacular nib indeed.

Sounds like a great deal and an effective step to your final goal.

Still following this fascinating thread!, so keep us informed.

Good luck!

Thanks Lex,

I think I am getting very close to my goal. I'm thinking maybe 4 more trades and I can make it :). but that is just my guess. It may take longer.

I was thinking the other day that it would be nice to get a factory 3B nib since these are not available on the M800 and below. Only the M1000 has the 3B. :) Has anyone used the 3B? What are your thoughts?

-Jonathan

M800 does have 3B nibs. They're also stub(ish) like M1000 3B. Check the Pelikan forum: there is a informal review there by Michelin, another FPNer here, in which he compares m1000 3B, m800 Italic Broad 1.5mm and m800 3B. I own the first two. The M1000 that you want is really awesome and I can use as every day pen to work and taking notes, not only as sign pen.

Pick any m1000! In good condition, of course. After that, trade for a green striated 3B. If i was not crazy for broad stub nibs, I would trade my M1000 3B with you. All m1000 nIbs are lovely springy with a lot of character, from EF to 3B. No doubt they are one of the best modern nibs, near to Namiki Falcon, in terms of flexibility.

Good call on the black 1000. You might find a 3B for trade, but my guess is that they're broad enough that most people who have them sought them out and are not keen to part with them. Then again, I didn't think you would get to the M1000 so soon, so what do I know?

Things are going well. I have a person that has agreed to trade me a black M1000 for the Conklin and Edison. I'm going to post my reviews soon for them though. After that, I might have someone local who is interested in a lateral trade to make my black M1000 into a green one :)
